This is just to guage numbers on who would actually be interested in a DECA day. It's no use us organising it if we're not going to get sufficient numbers so I figured we may as well put this thread up to see if we should pursue getting this going.

So here's the spiel: You've probably already read it in the NZR thread but for those of you who don't know, DECA in Shepparton is regarded as one of the premier Motorsport Venues in Victoria. It's home to a stage of the Dutton Rally and also Skylines Australia VIC and WRX Club regularly hold events down there.

Here's a pic of the venue...

The skidpan is almost 16,000 sqm and if you came to the DragTag day which was a 3000 sqm skidpan, you may appreciate how big this skidpan really is.
Then off to the left side of the pic you'll see the Long Track and in the middle is a somewhat tangled mess of squiggly lines representing the shorter track.

So basically the plan for the day would go something like this.
Split the group up into 2 halves. One group would do the skidpan events and the other would do the 2 back track events and then once completed the groups swap and do the other events. Then there would be a break for lunch and then the two groups join up for the skidpan battle events at the end of the day. The skidpan is divided (with cones) and two identical tracks would be layed out on either side and two cars run (one on each track).

So basically the purpose of the EOI is to see who would actually come and determine whether we should try and get this event going. It is a hard event to organise and requires a lot of people to help out (they can compete too). We'd need 6 marshalls minimum who could also compete but would have to rotate with someone when it was their turn to compete. The first half of the day is pretty much when we need most of the help (running 3 events at once). Once it's time for the skidpan battle part it's only one other person that would have to assist with the time-keeping.

So the event is possible but we just need to know if it's worth organising. So feel free to post up or vote and if you can assist let us know.

    Thanks

    Sandeep

How much and when? Until you can answer those questions (even with estimates) this thread is pointless.

Good point. Let's say roughly around 75 dollars for the day which is what I paid with SAU.
The date is what I'm not sure about yet. What would people prefer? If we want to get a saturday then we'll have to book well in advance. I enquired and they're pretty booked out for saturdays up into November and November is when the younglins like myself will be having exams. So late November is alright. Then we'd have people leaving for Christmas etc so mid Jan maybe a possiblity. Definately can't be Easter as that's when all the clubs start having events and also there's ZedFest.
I'm pretty much open to suggestions on this. But maybe we'll try for late November if that's alright with everyone?

how about next year, maybe march or april? that gives heaps of people including interstaters plenty of time, and is that estimated price inclusive for the liability insurance?

ZedFest is in Easter next year but it could be after that. Or could aim for maybe February? December an January are hard because most people will be away on holidays etc. But Feb would be alright I guess.

How about early December and we hold it as a Christmas Party?

    Blipman Beer hooves totally work

That would be cool, I can round up half a dozen mates with Skylines and other cars if we can't make up the numbers.

Lets do everything we can to make it up from our own numbers before we open it up to others.

    How about Saturday December 1st?
And yeah as Pete said we'll try and fill it up with as many 300zx members as possible and then open it up to friends or other clubs. We'd want to make sure we cater for the members first.
The Christmas meetup idea is good though. And it gives us plenty of time to get things organised and for people to pencil it into their Calendars.

p.s. Trav, your PM box is full but you don't need a licence to compete. Just an AASA or CAMS Licence.

December 1st works for me! Finish my course that week, would be an awesome way to celebrate (as well as have an early christmas party)! I third the idea of having an all 300 meet if we can...I like otehr cars, but there is somethign very specail about seeing a large number of the one make/model meeting up for a club event :)

I'd also put my hand up to marshall for some of the day too :)

    Cheers, Andrew

Is this just to get on the 'track' or does it include the skidpan? I dont have either, but would be interested to know how do go about getting them...is it expensive to get a CAMs licence. I was just on the phone to my insurance company today and they said if I had a CAMS lincence then I'd get a discount off my premium! :D Could be worth getting for two reasons ;)

    Cheers, Andrew

Just checked on SAU, 1st of December is their DECA day so we'll have to go for the next week, December 8th? How's that sound to everyone?

And with regards to the CAMS licence, you have to be a member of a CAMS club to get one. So you could join SAU VIC or I think NDSOC is also a CAMS club.
For the AASA licence I believe that we should be able to sell them on the day but I'll call and make sure tomorrow.

But if December 8th sounds good I can go ahead an fill out these Insurance forms and get some quotes written up.

if no licence is required woohoo, i'll just sit in the middle of the pack lol
is that estimated price inclusive of liability insurance?

should be close to the estimated cost including liability insurance and assuming we get around 40 cars or so (more would be better). 40 Zed's will be a tough ask but we can bump up the numbers with other clubs if we are struggling.

    bump....

Still looking at getting this going for the end of the year but before we commit to anything with a deposit, we'd like to make sure that we will get the numbers. Can't organise it properley until we're sure that we will be able to cover the costs as it is a fairly expensive excersise.

Could I please ask that people who would like to come and compete or help out please let us know.

    Thanks

I'd love a crack at the short & long course. Probably less interested in the skid pan but would give it a go.

yeah the backtracks are sweet and you can get to decent speeds on it too (on the long track anyway).

any other takers? it is a fair trek to get to sheppo but it would be a good event to have and a good end of the year get-together.
