    Hello,

This is my first question on Aus300zx so hope its in the right place

I've got a modified 300zx running e85 and an old haltech e11 ecu among other mods. has anyone had any luck tuning a modified VG to pass the appropriate ADR rules for a 1990 vehicle?

    Thanks
    Matt

You won't have any problems as long as you have an engineers certificate for the modifications.

thanks east coast. Really didn't want to here i had no chance of tuning to that level on compliance.

    Doesnt answer the question.

Nobody goes "Oh i just put in a new ECU, i better go get it engineered!"

    Regardless of who does what.
The fact is, if you have an aftermarket ECU fitted & it's not engineered, the vehicle is non compliant & therefore cannot legally be driven on Australian roads.

i bought a car from Queensland so must produce a blue slip for NSW registration. The blue slip is not easy to get as the car is modified. i will need an engineers cert and an emissions test to satisfy the blue slip guys I've talked to.
It going to be a very painful process. car may end up parts out yet if i can't secure a blue slip

Thanks east coast . i am taking from that that regardless of the mods if i can prove it complies with emissions it should receive a pass. ( based on 30 seconds of reading the information. i will have to read it a few times to get it through my thick head and just a single word can mean a lot in matters of legality) now blow offs have to go and ill need to recirculate the catch can etc etc but i might be able to swing this.

Why don't you give the testing station at Penrith a call.
Explain what you have & if it would be worthwhile bringing the car in for a test (if it's driveable).

Yes i can call them but not sure if i can find a blue slipper that would pass the car without that and an engineers certificate. it is drivable but has a hole cut in carbon bonnet to clear the custom plenum. (Think Jun bonneville style plenum and will need similar bonnet bulge or a scoop before anything happens) . Im just a bit concerned about showing the car to anyone who is in a position to record anything about it to be honest. Im thinking it is going to have to be engineered unless i can find a sympathetic blue slipper. im happy to cover the bonnet up as it would get pulled up straight away so i have no intention of driving it without addressing that. Ideally i would like to sort out the bonnet get it blue slipped and then start going about the engineering. engineering is a pain but i think it is going to be worth it the very long run

You are probably better off seeking advice from an engineer prior to doing anything.

yeah your right, i have had a phone conversation with Fink engineering. He suggested i get the emissions test and then come to him. ill call again and see if i have that the right way around. think it would be better to see him and then if it's all legal go for the emissions test.

I would suggest just getting a mobile guy out for an inspection and see what happens. No point in drawing their attention to the ECU if you don't have to do so...

mobile guy? what inspection are you referring to, blue slip? The car is very modified not going to fool anyone once they open the bonnet. the ecu is the least of the issues.

In QLD, I got a mobile mod plate guy out, and plated everything he could. Then I got a roadworthy (blue slip) guy out, told him over the phone that I've had the mod plate guy out (engineer). This makes it look like you have at least tried to do the right thing.

Try and make their lives easier, have the engine number etc all written down.

What kind of modifications are we talking?

to give you guys a better idea of the engine it looks like the baby brother of the Jun bonneville 300zx ( although im yet to do the bonnet bulge, it currently has a big hole in bonnet for plenum which i am addressing before anything happens) so slipping under radar is probably not going to be an option

Is this the one from QLD?
