Those of you who have been playing around with zed engine electrics for quite a while, will know there’s a resistor (I think it’s 2.2 kohms) that is in series with the trigger wire for Coil no.1 (it also loops to a check connector up near the relay box on the inner guard)

Here’s a pic of it (it’s on the harness under the floor near the ECU)

Now, my question is “What does the thing actually do ? ”

Is it there to stabilise the electronics somehow, or is it just there as a buffer for whatever gets plugged into the check connector ?

Please guys, no speculation (I can provide plenty of that on my own) …… I’d like some input from somebody who actually KNOWS something

Sorry I think you may only get speculation.
My thoughts: Looking at diagram, since it's just going to the signal wire to coil 1 and is only complete circuit when something is plugged into check connector.
    I would assume.
1)Nissan's way of checking timing when they made the car or a connection for old non-inductive timing light.
    2) trigger for a external tacho for true rpm

I know I was probably expecting the winning Lotto numbers when I asked, but I couldn’t be any worse off than I was before I asked.

Now, my first assumption was that the Resistor was a buffer for whatever got plugged into the check connector …… but I couldn’t help but wonder if there was some other oblique reason for its being ?

I have never known anyone to use the check connectors near the relay box (there are two of them) so your supposition they were for production line testing does hold possibilities. The one I mentioned is Coil related and the other connects to the Tacho. The No.1 Coil check connector may have needed a Resistor because of the possible exposure to KV whereas the Tacho check connector was only tackling <12V

If my only result from this post is to exercise a few members brain cells, or blow out some mental cobwebs, I can live with that

p.s another plus is that between us we have just doubled the normal Forum posting average
