Right. The supplier that gave me the shipping quote has replied saying they won't be able to supply any wings as with the current US dollar/Japanese Yen exchange rate they won't be able to make money on it.

Going to message Jesse Streeter and see if he can get in contact with VeilSide Japan directly.

    Hokay!

Jesse's been in touch with VeilSide directly and gotten back with a quote.

So that's nearly $650 each for the lot delivered to my door in Sydney.

I'm happy to go ahead with this. Before that though, does anyone speak Japanese? I'm rather keen to get in contact with VeilSide and see if they'll send it straight to us. Should end up a bit cheaper.

pretty steep jump from $430 to $650, no other options?

Well $430 was only ever the price before postage. Our only alternative is a forum member that can speak Japanese to see if they'll post them directly to us.

Damn you Anti... give me time to work some magic

I followed up with Veilside (refer to other post seeking Japanese language help) here are the response straight from the horse mouth and not someone (Streeter) trying to make a sale:

    Q1. Cost per item? 49,000
Q2 Discount if you buy 5 items? 20% (takes price to 39200)
Q3. Package Size? 2 metres by 80 centimeters by 90 centimeters per item (I asked for weight too wasnt supplied)
Q4. Do they post to Australia or only Japan? Both
Q5 Postage Cost? Australia 75000 Japan 15000 (not sure if thats each item or the combined amount)
Q6. They take Bank Transfer (Japanese domestic Furikomi) they say cash up front (durr... of course)

Now the ticky part, EMS doesnt specify on their website the maximum size of each item, however im guessing 2 meters exceeds their limits. I can have my wife check this, good news is EMS will pick up so if they do take such a large item they can pick up not have to pay postage from veilside to streeter then to Australia. I could ask the shipping company that took all my stuff from Japan to Australia when I moved back to see if they could help, they charge me about 1K USD for about 2 cubic door to port back in 2005.

    Anti,
I recently imported an Abflug front bar and garnish from Japan.
My quote for airfreight door to door was JPY163,000 (about $1,850). Note that this is the price of airfreight NOT including the price of the bar and garnish.
My alternative was seafreight door to Port of Brisbane at JPY41,500 (about $470) but I knew that I would be up for customs charges and a customs broker (by law you cannot pick up goods from the ship/wharf yourself unless you are a licensed customs broker/carter).
This cost another $800. Total DELIVERY cost was therefore about $1,270.
You can email Leo Moshage [leo@edicustoms.com.au] to confirm (he handled my import last month into Port of Brisbane).
Sorry to rain on your parade but I thought you should know up front before committing - check out EDI Customs, they're at all Australian ports. Good service, prompt replies.
