just a couple of quick questions.

    1. when i press on the "DEF" switch, it makes a really damn loud noise inside the engine bay!! never happened before. is this the clutch that engages it? what do i need to fix it and difficulty?

    2. been wet lately, and clutch is squeaky, both on positive and negative. especially when i do press on it real slow i can really feel thr friction while it squeaks. very drivable, just the annoying factor everytime i change gears :S

    From memory....

when you press that button, it activates the compressor and blows cold air onto the windscreen to defrost it if it is fogged up. So I guess the loud noise is the sound of your compressor making noise, which means it may be on its way out. But it should make the same noise if you press the auto button as that will also activate the compressor...

I forget the specifics, but if its the bearing, the compressor can be rebuilt for a small price. If not, when it eventually dies, you'll need a new compressor which costs about $800.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

The loud noises are there to make you DEF, it's what DEF buttons do

Seriously, the noises would be coming from the electronic clutch actuating the A/C compressor or the compressor itself. If it's a high-pitched squeal, it may be that the compressor has seized, and the drive belt is generating the noise as it is forced over the stationary clutch. Either way, take it to an auto-elec or automotive A/C expert and get it checked.
