Yesterday morning my clutch stopped working, as in I cannot change gears. There are no fluid leaks and I still have full pedal pressure. The only thing I can think of is the pivot has broken or come undone or something. I have just been under the car for a look and the lever that comes off the slave cylinder has no play, should it be loose if the pivot is broken or disconnected? Any other ideas?

you'll have to pull the box, to fix what ever is wrong with it

most likely you'll need new clutch and pressure plate, what ever is wrong with it, you are going to have to pull the box.

Could you explain why I would need a new clutch and pressure plate?

Anyone else? Anyone had a similar problem where they coudn't change gears but it was not due to a loss of hydraulics? Is there anything besides the pivot that could cause this? I don't have the facilities to drop the gearbox (plus couldn't be arsed) so I'm taking it somewhere to get fixed. I want to have a good idea of what the problem is so I can calm them down when they start freaking over it being an import 300ZX and saying they are too hard and it'll be $800 to drop the box (damn this small town )

dropping the box is the same as any other car...

You said you were taking it to someone to get it done there well the only way to know for sure is when they drop the box...

heheh oh well if they cannot do a clutch on a 300zx then they would hate to do say ones on hilux's then...

totally sucks i know but maybe take it to someone else? or are they all like that?

Clutch fork pivot may be stuffed

I got my clutch change recently and my mechanic said it was a good idea to change the clutch fork pivot as he has seen plenty of them brocken in the past. Not saying that is your problem but a big possibility.

    mine did that too

fluid was full but some how an air buble managed to get in the line.
try bleeding the fluid, if that dosnt work then look at the pivot. can you select gears with enngine off?

I can change gears with the engine off and by matching revs while moving. I think it has to be the fork pivot so I ordered a chromoly one today from CoZ. The fluid is only about 8 weeks old and was properly bled (I replaced the old flexible line with a braided stainless one) and since then the clutch has been flawless up until friday morning. I vaugely remember hearing a clunk on the last gear change before the problem. Decided to do it all myself now. Guess I'll find out on Thursday when I drop the box.

    Cheers guys
