Hey guys, so I decided I’m in it for the long haul with this z! She’s a 1990 2+0 manual slicktop Recently had my fuel feed line split on the aus300zx cruise, after this scare I’m not taking any chances. Had this z for alittle over 3 years now and added my own personal touch’s to it but now it’s time to dig in and start spending. Currently the car’s setup is making 330kw @24psi with a haltech elite 2500 Engine: Wiseco pistons Eagle rods GT2871r highflowed turbos Series 2 ptu BDE exhaust cam gears Mishimoto radiator GKtech fan Nismo 555 injectors Plazmaman pro series intercooler Greddy profec b spec 2 boost controller BDE low profile engine mounts Spitfire coil packs Polished plenum Fuel system: 450lpm fuel pump Nismo 555 injectors in stock rail Go fast bits fuel pressure reg Exhaust: 3” dumps 3” exhaust Lukey mufflers Gearbox/ Drive line: Clutch pro single plate button clutch Z1 one piece tailshaft Braided clutch line Z1 short shifter Steering/Suspension: BC racing coilovers ZSS front upper control arms ZSS rear traction arms ZSS rear toe arms ZSS rear camber arms SRI solid steering bush Gktech offset rack spacers Rebuilt steering rack Non turbo power steering pump UAS front suspension brace Rear strut brace Front strut brace Wheels: 18x9.5 +22 Cr Kai knock off rims wrapped in Bridgestone RE003’s Brakes: Upgraded pads and rotors Hel braided brake lines Interior: Re-trimmed all the fabric in black Suede Bride seats Works bell boss kit Momo corse steering wheel Joybreak checkered floor mats Joybreak classic horn button Z sport 300km cluster Headunit -Sony MEX-N5300BT Amplifier -Sony XMN1004 Cerwin Vega V465C speakers Z garage triple gauge AEM afr gauge AEM Oil pressure gauge AEM boost gauge AEM water temp gauge Exterior: 2k front bar Zedro front lip Unknown side skirts Twin z type 2 rear bar Zedro roof wing Winfactory CSL-R rear wing Painted in LP2 midnight purple 2k tails Altia rear centre panel My current situation is that the zed does not drive the way I want it to perform, leans out under load badly, depending on the day I can’t even get into without the car carrying on. My current plan is: Im not chasing huge power but with the cars current state I’m finding it quite boring seeing as I can’t push it. Hoping for about 450+kw Engine Refresh & inspect the motor with fresh bearings and rings where needed. Polar engineering fuel hanger -Yet to decide what fuel pump’s to run Top feed fuel rails -Injectors yet to be decided 262 cams Upgraded Valve springs Upgraded head studs MLS head gaskets Would love to do some port work to the heads and port match the intake manifold Will be getting new dumps & mid pipes made to suit Ross harmonic balancer R35 coil conversion Gearbox/Diff: Clutch direct twin plate clutch and flywheel Nismo 2 way diff Exterior: Smoked side markers Get the car re-painted eventually. Torn between fresh LP2 or G30
side skirts are tbo, probably came on the car from japan. I only ever see them on japan cars and imports I don't think anyone has copied them so would say genuine tbo. The only bad thing about them is they slope down down near the front wheel making the car even lower. Love the colour is it factory midnight car or you chose it, if factory I would strongly suggest keeping it.
MORBOOST - Not an original colour has been painted before my ownership. I got it detailed when I got it, seemed to clean it up heaps. thanks for branding the skirts, has been a wonder of mine for a while seeing as I’ve never seen them on a zed in aus before either.
This afternoon got about to looking into the drivability issue, smoke tested it and found a split vac line. Tracked it back to the boost controller. Yet to test drive it so we’ll see! whist looking over car seen some pretty dry looking fuel lines. Replaced all 3 with new clamps,
Also got around to taking out this short shift. Put stock one back in and hopefully it’s a lot nicer to drive now. Previously felt like it was getting stuck inbetween gear changes. From what it feel like just driving it back into the shed. Feels much better!
Took the car for alittle drive today. Seems to be better under load, also realised that besides the clips on the top of the radio surround. This is the most complete the interior has been in 3 years. With the stock shifter installed car drives phenomenal now. Smooth throughout all gears, wasn’t expecting such a difference. Would love to rebuild the stock shifter eventually seeing as there is some play in it but I’ll get around to it eventually.
Still collecting parts so far! Figured I’d knock some big ones out first. Ordered 264 9.5mm cams Scored some RobZ 62mm throttle body’s Polar fuel hanger with pumps Nismo 2way diff Greddy diff hat cover 40mm external wastegates Xtreme twin plate clutch Speedtek shifter Still yet to order new turbos, polar manifolds and the rest of my fuel system hope to get the ball rolling soon enough. The z is currently sitting unregistered as I’m on a good behaviour period for a year. A lot still to go. I’m not planning on pulling it apart till I’ve got all parts ready to go.
with 555 you will run out of fuel fast if you want to run flex and i think you should id go 1300cc, for headroom as well, rob260 can set you up with what you need, sounds like a nice build, i dont like some parts on that list but will work, i would also run an SPL thermo fan not a clutch fan, when selecting cams make sure the cam supplier supplies springs the suit as well ( i like single some people like duels ) the vg likes 1mm oversize valve and some small port work will go along way , the drop in cams will work , but its best you do head work to make good use of the heads , you will notice a good gain in valves and chamber work. this will help bring the cams in as well 264 is not a huge cam but yet a good choice, i would not run duel fuel pumps in this set up just no need for it, 1 single walbro 525 will be fine you wont need any more fuel then that, keep in mind the 25 30 amp you are pulling for nothing, no need, turbosmart make great stuff a 800 fuel reg will be perfect, i trust anything turbosmart, ARP headstuds is a must more so with MLS be sure you get the proper washer for the top , you should do the bottom end as well. just my 2 cense
Having had a SPAL thermo fan on a VG30DETT, I would never run anything other than the factory fan and clutch... the electronic fan just can't move enough air.
ive been running the spl fan with a shroud for 10 years with no problem what so ever on the vg and the vr still actually run the exact same system in the car now , i have never touched it, having said that i never had an issue with the stock fan i was running it with th thermostatic switch on the vg on the vr through the ecu ive never have the temp problem even in peak summer i still run the same system i have been for many many years
