Brett Dempsey Engineering electronic water pump kit.

"Finally, a block-mounted electric water pump for the VG30! The BDE water pump includes a CSR pump motor and impeller assembly. CSR is best known for their electric water pumps capable of 37 gpm flow rates for domestic engines. BDE designed and developed the adapters that allow CSR?s proven pump motor and impeller to bolt directly to the VG30DE(TT). The BDE adapter plates are machined from 6061 aluminum and include o-ring seals, stainless steel hardware and anodized finish.

Some of the benefits of an electric water pump are:

Frees up HP lost from belt-driven pump/fan
Run after engine off with e-fan for faster cool-down periods
Consistent flow rate regardless of engine RPM
Note: modification to the lower timing belt cover is required for fitment to the pump."

I was going to once upon a time but haven't gotten around to it. Been about three years in the garage now so time to move it along to someone else.

It is a very nicely made thing though -Brett's products are first class.

They would probably last longer than a mechanical pump ? not having the belt tensioned on the shaft etc .

Service life of the pump is quoted as 3500 hours -so interval based on kms is going to vary according to conditions. To play it safe I would consider replacing it every 120,000kms.

The benefits of a kit like this would be reduced parasitic Hp loss, reduced clutter and the poet this to have it running in a cool down cycle with the motor off.

If I was ever to fit it I would eliminate my thermostat and have the water pump running off a thermostatic controller.

    Was that aimed at me?

I'm looking at it but I think for now I'll stick with the stock one, other things to spend my money on first.

Yeah, it would suit what I'm doing quite well I think but first priority is to make the car go, then I'll be spending more money making it go faster.

If it was aimed at me it was a good suggestion though. :)

While we're dobbing in other people to buy this, I wonder what Graham is doing for a water pump on his car...

using a stock one with a bigger pulley to slow it down :D

Electric pumps IMO add complexity for no advantage

Trekkie we agree to disagree. It is actually the opposite in regards to complexity. But, I suppose it is in context.
