Don't know how much the injectors will be but I bet they are more than sards... a bit dissapointing really I had thought the sards were the good shit but I guess someone has to be the guinea-pig!

Yes, I am exceptionally interested in the result of the flow pattern of these new rails and 'unknown brand' 850cc pintle injectors... If it proves to be a workable combo (ie, the fuel spray does not get significantly impeded by the plenum), I'd be interested in purchasing the combo.

I think many people would be interested

And I would be one of them.

Well that all makes me sad since i just closed up my engine with the Sard 650's. I might get to work on the spare lower plenum I have at home.

    More problems...

OK guys the new 850cc pintle type injectors came in and guess what the spray pattern is still too wide to use with early lower plennums.

It looks like Nismo 740cc injectors will be the way to go as when tested the width of the spray is a few degrees narrower than the other injectors used so far.

So we are waiting on a rail that will suit series 2 style Nismo injectors and bolt up to the old style lower plennum. I will keep everyone updated...

In the meantime does anyone have links etc for modding an early series lower plennum to suit a wider spray pattern? Can it be done? Has anyone tried it? I saw the links to Z1 kit but their plennums are only modified to suit later style injector rails -all well and good except the rail is not the problem.

Can you post pictures of the 850cc injectors you received. I am guessing these are the power enterprise single hole injectors (they don't have a pintle, but they are single hole like the pintle style ones). These are also the same injectors as in the border kit. If possible I'd be interested in a quick video of the spray pattern of it.

As for modifying the upper plenum... Really all you're going to be able to do is open up the hole a bit (taper it so it is wider at the bottom) and take some material off the head ports to open them up a little too... It won't be perfect, but it will be better.

Don't have any more info at this stage but I've asked for pics/vids/part numbers etc

Not sure if they would have bothered though as it all takes time etc and time is MY money at this stage haha

We suspect that the Nismo 740cc will do the job but only one way to be sure, we're also talking about opening up the hole to accomodate wider spray, however this is only if the problem persists with the Nismos.

    Nismo 740cc

It was my understanding that the 740cc also had a wider spray pattern. I may be wrong but from what I remember they didnt make a 740cc in the old style?

Not sure... alls I know is they tested some second hand 740s that were hanging around and the spray pattern is not as wide as the 850's. Waiting to see how we go....

They are a 4 hole design so they should have a wider spray pattern... Is it possible the second hand ones were malfunctioning?

Don't know sorry... but new ones are on the way along with a new rail. I've asked john to make a vid of the nismo ones so we can only wait and see. Pretty good info coming out of this though hey... feel sorry for everyone who rushed out and bought a 300 degrees SARD kit only to have fuel hitting the sides of the plennum...

    Bit of a pain

But that said SARDS are reasonably universal so others can use them in different cars etc, hence the use of the collars.

Out of interest what did the SARDS look like in terms of spray with the collars? And how about the border injectors?

    Collars

If I remember correctly, the collars just go on the top of the injector to allow them to be held in the rail securely. They don't affect the spray pattern or the height they sit in the rail.

Haven't tried SARD injectors in factory rail and not really an option for my car. I don't have collars anymore but if anyone wants to volounteer a set I can ask john to make a vid for comparisson.

I don't think we have tried Border injectors -I don't know what brand the 850cc units are that were tested but the pattern was again no good. Sorry no vids of these... If Border are shorter i imagine they would have similar problem BUT I'll chase this up as it sounds like you're onto something with the single hole design.

    working on it

The issue is not availability but rather finding a combination that is going to give acceptable results. The point of all this testing is try to put together a bolt on kit including rails and injectors that doesn't require any modding AND will deliver an acceptable spray pattern.

Both the sard and the 850cc rails have been sent back with instructions for nismo 740cc rail. I have some injectors on order so once they're in we can try it out.

The 850cc were not a brand name but most likely the same as border ie Nippon Denso. Interetingly enough the border kits sold through greenline use sard injectors whereas other retailers advertise border kit with Nippon Denso injectors... I suspect they may be the same manufacturer but the sards use a diffuser? Anyways I'm trying to clear that up with method as he has a border kit but his inbox is full :bash:

So for the minute we are still on standby until more parts come in to do the proper testing.
