    Hey guys,

I've got my first box out of the mold and covered; to lower the cost I have used 18mm MDF board for the front face, bottom and top, and the back curve is all fibreglass, to hug the contours of the boot. I covered this box with vinyl myself, since it's pretty much a prototype to make sure everything works properly, and if I need to modify anything, I can.

    Info
The total volume of this box is 1 cubic foot, or 30 litres. For those of you keeping tabs on your Fairlady's figure, these boxes only weigh 6kg each. These boxes have been designed to sit on the lip of the boot trim plastic, and are therefore raised from the floor about 15mm. This means that anyone with a false floor (I'm planning to) can still use these boxes, and terminal blocks (NOT INCLUDED) can be mounted underneath the box. The boxes are fastened by a thin strap attached to the top, which tucks under the trim.

The finished product can be covered in your choice of automotive carpet or vinyl (my preference would be carpet as it is more forgiving if you've got stuff in your boot, from personal experience;) and will probably ship better), by the same motor trimmer that covers the door pods.

Pricing will be as follows (2 seater): 10+ user group buy
One user, one box: $180 (plus shipping)
One user, two boxes: $320 for both (plus shipping)

    Payment
To make things easier, the group buy will close on Thursday 31st July. 50% deposits will be due two weeks after you have registered your interest, and the final payment will be due on Thursday 7th August.

    Postage
Doesn't look like it's going to be as bad as I thought! The measurements for the box are 37H 54W 30D, and I rounded them up for packing, and got $30 to The Gap in Queensland. PM me your postcode for a postage estimate. This may mean that bulk shipping may not be required, but I'll look into Australia Post further with people's post codes.

*Please note that the delivery time will be calculated on final figures, and it'll take time, guys! I'm only one person, and this is in my spare time*

The sub in these pictures is 14cm deep, but I've also had my DLS MW12 in, which is 20cm wide. If anyone has a sub that they're not too sure about, pm me.

I'll take a passenger side box. With the 30l volume, would it be better suited for a 10" woofer rather than a 12" ?

    Looks good.

I'll be down for a set if we can get the group buy off the ground.

Here are some pictures of how the top of the box is secured

It is a small steel strap that tucks under the trim and secures to the top of the box with a screw

I have found this to be more than adequate as the weight of the sub helps hold the box in place considerably

Also I will find out how much some terminal boards are for those who want them

Well I was thinking drilling a couple of holes through the bottom into the floor to secure the box..and then put the sub in place..But that might just be a silly thought

    Ahhhh Ok
I had only used a strap so it's not difficult to get to your jack etc

Trust me it's all you need and it doesn't look out of place

the volume doesn't determine what sub suits it best. you have to find the particular sub to suit a 30L sealed box, this could be 6", 8", 10", 11", 12", 13" etc. but on average I'd say 1 cubic foot (sealed) suits most cheaper 12" subs. These boxes are probably too small to port for most subs (all the subs I can think of)

I am very interested in a passenger side box but i am not sure as to the depth. I have sent you a pm regarding the depth of my sub, (around 165 mm).

COuld you please advise if this box will be deep enough for my JL 12w3?

    thanks

    Stan

    I'll need some more measurments
What you need to do is measure the magnet depth with the magnet on a table then measure how far the magnet is from the side
