Noise at all Vic tracks has become an incredibly hot potato .... to the extent where (at Sandown) a residents action group have purchased their own noise meter and as soon as excess noise is detected, they ring the EPA and the local council (and not event organisers) which sets up a 3-strikes trigger (3 strikes and the event is shut down by the EPA).

At PI, activtsts cannnot get to within 30m of the track from outside the circuit, but they can get to within 40m and some bright spark has calculated the abatement effect of the extra 10m distance so they have their meter set up to check for noise that exceeds the proportionate level.

These activists also will call the local council and the EPA is they hear any "loud" exhausts before 9am.

Stupid part about it is my Z34 exhaust is EPA certified as road legal, but PI Ops still class it as a "race" exhaust becuase it is not OEM. So I can drive it into the pits, but not restart the engine before 9am.

Event scrutineers will scrutineer cars in your pit area to avoid having to start engines before 9am, so we all need to respect the contractual constraint between NDSOC and PI Ops so the club does not get a financial penalty and/or the event gets shut down.

We all just need to be sensible and it is not going to be a problem.

Yes I was warned for noise at the last one 6 years ago, I should be fine now.

RB is correct about the problems with noise, so to make it easier for the competitors we will have the scrutineers come to you so when you turn up at the track you just stay with the car in the pits and we will come to you.

The reason for the shopping bag is because the dorians need to be mounted outside the car, so what most competitors do is stick it in a bag, open the passanger door, hang the bag out and close the door. After that just throw a bit of race tape on it to keep it from flapping about and you are good to go.

Intersting and thanks for clarifying, I would never have guessed that one. Everywhere else they usually work in the car, sort of low down. They are about 3 or 4 inch small red square thing with a hole at one end to cable tie it right? Passenger side?

Yeh, dorian size details would help. I have a QR issue transponder mounted permanently on the avatar car and would prefer to use the same mount for the dorian.

The other question I have is if the tow car and trailer can be driven into the pits and unloaded there? Rather than have to try to push the Z before 9 am.

    Noise

The other thing I was wondering about is what happens to the tow cars with the aftermarket mufflers coming in before 9am? I better not to admit in that LOL

Also for everyone's info I've spoken to Phillip Island to enquire about leaving the race car or the trailer overnight, they said No Way!

Yes, that is the idea. You drive into the pit area and unload the car (without starting it) and then wait for the scrutineers to come to you.

So who is going from the VIC crew and what events are you doing? I was hoping for a run in regularity event but no cams license and not holding my breath to get one organised in time... Might have to settle for the cruise. But yeah who's going to be around and what are you up to?

Not sure what NSW are like but I needed to sort out my CAMS license in a hurry last year after I'd let it lapse for a while and CAMS Vic did it over the phone for me and I had it with in 48 hours, worth a go.
