Haha, reminds me of a joke I read by one of the "old school" Aussie cricket teams boys during the Allen Border years.

They were touring India and due to a booking error a couple of the lads had to share double beds. The next morning one was well rested and the other was obviously tired and hadn't slept much. When asked what happened, the well rested guy said at first he'd been worried about sharing a bed and having enough room. But he fixed it by reaching over and giving the other guys package a good squeeze. He then had heaps of sleeping room as the other guy sat in the corner of the room all night watching him with fear.

    Event clarification

Hey Guys, I am the contact for the Nissan Datsun Nationals. Its great to have so much interest from this forum.

Please feel free to forward your questions to me....I'm not a regular on this forum so please don't rely on me checking the posts.

From the registrations I have received so far these should be the most diverse nationals yet.

There is a lot of talk about the cost and requests for sprints only. I have represented these back to the club and we are sticking to our original response.

This is the nationals. The nationals is a social event with some motorsport as a bonus. Also the budget has been calculated with full participation in mind. The general participation fee includes most of the event running costs.

If we allowed people to just enter the sprints the fee would be much higher and it would nolonger be the nationals it would just be another sprint weekend.

I have nothing against a pure sprint weekend but they happen all the time and the nationals is different. Also when you compare the entire fees to fees for previous nationals you will see they are quite reasonable.

Anyway if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Also if anyone is interest in volunteering at the Nationals please let me know.

    Thanks Greg

    NATIONALS = MAXIMUN REPRESENTATION ..???!!!

.. or maximun disappointment ...??? .. while i will not be "sprinting" nor attending the "dinner" (based solely on reports from previous "dinner events"), I find this response especially disappointing ..

.. i have lost count of the number of attendees commenting on the very restricted interpretation taken towards those who want to "sprint" but not "dinner" or the other "lock in" elements of the SOCIAL "package" ... very sad, indeed ... !!!

.. do we have a "nissan/datsun nationals" or do we have simply a "financial" good thing ...??? .. as a 300ZX fanatic and one of a large "aus300X" group which organised it's accommodation, in great expectation, way, way back, I feel that this question must be asked ....????

.. is it not better to have one very large, fine group of nissan/datsun afficionardos .. as opposed to an overly protected financial base ....??? .. I know what my and THE fairly obvious choice is ...????

sorry, greg ... but your reponse will have many stating the obvious .. " not happy, JAN ..!! " .. and will do little to promote "marque" adhesion ... sad, indeed, for mine ...!!!!

Baz, I can't quite follow your comment or agree with it. What part of Greg's comment don't you like, or don't you agree with?

The main point of Greg's comment is in response to people (from any Nissan/Datsun club or group, not just ours) that want to just pay for the sprint part of the event without paying the event entry fee. Greg goes on to point out that this is not "just" a sprint weekend, it is a social Nissan/Datsun event with motorsport options. As such, everyone that wants to attend and participate in events should pay the entry fee. Both motorsport events and the Sunday night dinner are extra cost options.

Nissan/Datsun owners that want to attend but not pay an event fee can do so, but would would not be able to enter in the show/shine or motorsport events. That seems perfectly fair to me.

These events are held held 2 years apart and rotated amongst 3 states, so that each organising club only bears the cost and organisation responsibilities once every six years. The clubs need to plan months, even a year or more, ahead to ensure everything is in place on what is a very busy holiday period, and as a member of one of the organising clubs (NDSOC), I can assure you that the concept is not to create a "financial good thing", but to ensure that the clubs do not cop a financial bloodbath in getting the event organised, run, and completed efficiently.

I am perfectly happy with Greg's comment, and would not be one of the "not happy, Jan" crew.

    Cheers, Mikey.

i understand your point mikey ... my point is simply would it not be better to provide for optimal participation in events, where some, for varying reasons ( limited time, financial, etc ) can only manage one event, sprints for example .... rather than lock these people out of real, active participation ....

seriously, from discussions i have had, i am surprised at the number of people in this position .... where limited active participation is their only realistic option ...

i am equally surprised that requests to do so have received perhaps a rather non-diplomatic response .... not the warming welcome to come aboard and be involved that one might have expected within the "nissan/datsun" family ....

... if thems the rules, so be it ... i just think that the non-inclusive attitude will mean that some very keen competitors will be denied the chance to contribute to the overall weekend activities .... and that for me is a bit sad ....

    The whole Nissan Nationals thing......

Is about an eventful weekend, socially and competitively.
The costs in some areas are high but the economy dictates this and the clubs need to survive, remember these clubs are funded through their events and memberships and cost money to run.
We as you know run our own bi yearly thing, this doesn't cost much as a rule and there is no motorsport involved, if there were the costs would be staggering.
As for the social side, the one Nissan Nats I went to in QLD we went to the dinner and had a lovely time, great turn out and food was good.
    Thats just my input....

Hi, Greg here again. Thanks for all the discussion regarding the event. We are keen to accept everyone so long as they are prepared to pay the appropriate fees and have a Nissan or Datsun. The fee structure will barely cover the costs of the event.
Our club accepts that we can't please everyone but I think anyone who decides not to go will be missing out on a great event. Yes there are still spaces in the event including the sprints. Just make sure to get your registration in before the Feb 15 closing date.
