hey all. Every morning i start the car, it ticks, sounds like a lifter or something. the engine has only done 92k, and always serviced.....It goes away after it gets up to temp. Its only a slight tick-tick-tick in top end. on left side when in car. if i leave it idle it goes after....about 10min, i am running 20w/50 oil, am wondering if theres an additive to put in or should i use thicker oil?

also does anybody have a seat belt for front passenger side series 3!!! :(

    thanks for any comments :)

Sounds like lifter tick, mine gets it if the car doesn't get started for a week or so, mainly in winter though. Is yours parked outdoors overnight? 20W/50 is fine

    sounds like

lifters if it goes away. Hate to break the bad news to you but unless the engine has been rebuilt, it has done a lot more than 92,000klms.It probably had 92k's on it in 1993.
But yes, definately lifter noise from what you describe. Quite common nowa days.
    regards

2nded, I agree with forklift culprit

...lifters still pumping up when cold.

    Don'y use additives ... please.

Try changing the oil to a synthetic.

PS: As John ('Mr' forklift) said, l lifter tick doesn't mean imminent disaster. Keep an eye on it though and check oil levels and change schedules consistently.

is it a tick or a knock??? my mate just stuffed a piston skirt and his all started with a tick/knock.. If you drive it hard or let the oil run low which is what he did it doesnt help...but yehh prob is just a lifter but just thought i would throw it out there LOL

    try this Rory.....

    1. try an overpromoted additive that probably wont work
    2. Change lifters
    3. Block your ears or turn up the radiop when starting :D

Its the genuine 1994 original engine, the prevoise owner ran it with thin oil, apparently he used the oil for the turbo model by mistake, and since then it started the problem, if its a cold night outside the engine starts up in the morning with the tick-tick (verry faint) and if its a warm night the noise wont occure on starting....its about due for an oil change so i'll see if that helps.
