If you could do that, then it would be great, as i dont know where to go and whos good or not. I guess i will try and do some of the work involved myself, but price range probably looking at around 3-4 grand

when things like this happen, especially since he isn't a business per se, gather a couple of mates, dads, uncles.. whatever, and go down there and show him that you want it finished properly.. its not hard, this guy will just **** you over otherwise.. trust me I've been there

Having followed the thread I'm not 100% sure that the department of fair trading can help you -if he's not a shop then they can't intervene. They can drop over and have a quiet word in his ear about how he should not be contracting his private services out of a workshop but the CTTT has no powers to compell him as an individual to repay your money. Contact them nonetheless but be aware that at the end of the day they can't get your money back.

You can take him to small claims court VERY cheaply if you need to.

As far as body shops, where abouts are you again? My car is currently in a shop at cromer getting some bad engine bay rust fixed up and some bodykit parts fitted. Top job so far (I work around there once a fortnight so I'm able to drop in and see how it's going) and good blokes as well. PM me if you want their details.

    Good luck

Do you have his real name and home/work address? Had this happen to me a couple of months ago, also had one of my car painted black.

Advice..................keep records of everything, don't delete messages, get a bank statement of $$$ transfer, record of cons, and get a record of phone calls though your phone company.

Most likely the police will require you put in a statement.

My painter took the car for 6 months, couldn't contact his phone and the guy relocated houses. I also received several parking, speeding and red light infringements. Had the police handle these :).

Eventually the police tracked this scum bag down, spooked him enough to actually paint the car and give it back (understandably not in person).

    Good luck!!!!

Adriano-Zed where did you leave your car? hopefully not with a guy that calls himself Sid near Fairfield.

Mine ended well because I transferred my money through the bank, have access to funky databases, and friends in the area :).

I basically had to do all the work, the police IMO doesn't have the most up to date databases.

i liek to do majority of work myself... but if i ever done it by a shop id make sure i knew somoene who knows the shop. and i would make sure i get a contract before hand... you cant get screwed out of a contract, thats what theyr for...

just like allanis morresett said... you live, you leaarrrrrrrnnnnn

i also agree with popping around there with some mates, just because your honest and kind hearted means that you need someone to point out that hes trying to take advantage of that, im the same but im still rather assertive, and when im not or when my mates arnt, it always helps to step in and give a hand eh.

The money ive paid him i know that i have lost, i dont think its worth all the trouble i would have to go through to recover a part of them, if my car was still untouched then it wouldve been a different situation, but because work has been done, even minor, it is very hard to recover the money.
The guy lives close to newcastle, so if anyone offers to respray your car give me a shout and make sure its not him.
Like i said before, if any of you guys have good recomendations as to what shop i should go to please tell me, and since i will have the extra time, i will probably buy kaminari side skirts and shave the number plate bracket off the 2K front bar. Please send me a pm or post here for good places to get my car resprayed. :D:cool:

I hope you have a quote or at least a receipt for the cash you have gave him.If you have both you are fine, either way ring the motor vehical accident repair council M.V.A.R.C and talk to them.I had very simular issue 2 years ago and these guys worked it out for me,basicly if you have paperwork they can delicence a panel shop/smash repairs if they dont get it together.Good luck.

    2 things.

Small claims court costs about $50 to file a lodgement and some of your time. Thats it. You can deliver the summons yourself for free or pay a bailiff like $30 or something. He is required to attend the summons, if not you ask for a summary judgment of the amount and the judge can issue an order for the bailiff to go to his house and confiscate any good of value to sell to recover the amount owing. If he attends he has to justify the amount to the judge and you can produce your evidence. There are no lawyers involved in small claims. Ive been through it before and its very easy.

Secondly, since hes doing the work from home then definately call our friendly tax department. Give his details and discuss he asked to be paid in cash and suggest they check he is declaring this extra cash income on the side. If it doesnt come up at the end of june he's in for a world of hurt. No one rips a new asshole like the tax department.

    Take this guy's advice

He's got a very good point... I would take the bastard to court and get some of that green back! Or else take him out back and get the green out of him your self. Either way I wouldn't let the arse hole take my money. No offense mate, but back here in the US every Z driver I know is a bad ass -- What's up with Aus... I thougth you guys were supposed to be rough-necks like the lot of us.

Yeah, if you lack the minerals to confront him about it, the tax audit threat sounds damn good. Otherwise, yeah tuck your tail and give your money away. Preferrably to me next time :D

Nah, we're all big pansies here :p And our money comes in many different colors including green :D

As suggested take it to small claims, failing that I'm sure a few of the boys will pay him a visit to get some of the dosh back (ala Zrated's "ported heads" Baz likes holidays anyway :D )

Okay thanks for everybodys advice, certainly paid off. I got $1000 back from him after some discussions.
After 6 long weeks, the drive back to Sydney was the best, just like the first day i got her :D. Even though she is ugly and patched up i still had the biggest smile on my face. Anyway... here is the work that has been done, crappy picture i know but you get the ideea.

The guy i think did a very good job, all tig welded and bog as less as possible.
Now...i have been giving it some though and ive decided to do all the body preparation myself. Ive bough a book on vehicle painting and monday i will go and buy another one. If any of you guys that have done this yourselves before have any tips for me that would be great. The reason is that i will lose my licence for 3 months so its to keep me occupied and ofcourse to save money, so many stuff to do now, the GB seat covers to install, install/replace all the 100K parts, put the 2K front bar on, replace the blown led light in the dash and maybe convert the pods to led too.
Lots of things on the list so whish me luck.

Glad to hear that you got some of your money back. :D :D Some times you just gotta get rough with things to get 'em to see things your way. ;) Again, no offense to Aus. I would love to live there, just can't afford to move there.... :D not sure if the lady friend would go with me either... She seems to like North Dakota for some reason.   Best of luck in all your endeavors Mate. Now, it is time for me to get back to work on my Zed.... :zlove: Having a hell of a time getting it started in the cold ; if anyone has any ideas, I could use some advice. L8R All!
