The Tech Section for this FAQ doesn't work, so I ask the question again - I need to remove the front wheels so where best to place jack?
    thanks

Front cross member is usually a safe bet

for jacking up the front jack up from the middle of the front cross member, this will raise the front evenly, then place jack stands under the chassis rails, czp has a write up on jacking points. If you lower the car at all it becomes pretty hard to get a generic trolley jack under the front lip, usually ramps are required, which you can make out of wood on the cheap.

MintZ32 & mitsoevo are right ...... a trolley jack under the crossmember is the best bet. Grab yourself some little plastic ramps off Fleabay to get your zed off the ground enough to be able to fit the trolley jack under it and you're in business.
Never leave your zed on the trolley jack  Stands are a MUST in every garage

Be sure not to jack the radiator support.

Funny thing that link I posted from the Factory Service Manual? Shows front trolley jack placement, rear trolley jack placement, front jack stand placement and rear jack stand placement all in one picture... as well as mentioning chocks and not to get under the vehicle without stands.

A low profile floor jack can get under the car without the use of ramps, if your looking to jack the vehicle up as quickly as possible.

However car ramps are imo the fastest way to get either the front or rear of the car off the ground and the back down again with mininal effort.

I'm currently looking at using a rakjak pneumatic 3 ballon jack as an alternative lifting tool for jacking the car up off the ground. It can lift the vehicle in 30 seconds without the need to manually pump a hand trolley. The only downsides are you oliviously need a air source (air compressor) to raise the rakjak and the maximum raised height of the rakjak is still lower then the maximum raised height of even a low profile floor jack. But raising the car above a certian height may become unsafe anyways so i'm going to see if the rakjak's maximum height is high enough to be enough room to work underneath the vehicle before buying one.

I personally use the hydraulic wheel dollies to lift the car up enough to give clearance for the trolley jack.

Pity with car ramps is that they haven't kept up with the growing tire sizes. Both my ramps only sufficiently hold 14" wheels. Bigger wheels/tires just ooze over the edges: front, back and sides.

What about race ramps? Ive got my eyes on a set of these puppies. Expensive for car ramps but they suit lowered cars and the ramps im looking at have a removal mid section to allow access to the undercarrige from the sides.

Maybe too much info all at once Rob? :D
An aside, I opened that link to the online FSM then searched for LC4 hoping to provide others with a link to the TT oil cooler flow schematic as discussed in this thread -

and it has the same incomplete diagram, as in no oil cooler schematic. Is there a 1994 onwards version of the online manual? Cheers, Mick.
