A/C shutting off at high Revs (4000k+)

Hey guys, just a quick one I've noticed recently that whenever I accelerate my Z and I rev past the 4k rpm line on the tachometer my digital A/C pod shuts off and the display disappears along with the air-con system completely. Once I drop down under 4k rpm the A/C pod comes back on like normal.

Is this normal at all? I have a series 2 digital A/C pod and matching amplifier (ecu).

I found that it only occurs when the A/C system is not being used or if it is in the ECO mode, if I have it set to AUTO the A/C system wont shut off.

    Hi Adam
I have a feeling I read somewhere that under acceleration it cuts out to give more power then should cut back in once you back off. That said perhaps if the throttle position sensor is not adjusted properly or faulty it may effect that to some degree.
    Cheers
    Dave

i read thos as well i just never noticed it really until i started having all these shiftijg problems with my auto. i thought it was an odd function to cut off at all but if thats normal then thats good then. i was thinking i might of have bad wiring or ground in the system.

ah thanks alex i thought it was strange for the pod to shut off like that but if thats normal then thats great.

All that feature is meant to do is disengage the compressor, not switch off the actual climate control display. If it works properly, you shouldn't be able to tell that anything is happening at all. Something isn't right.

That's really unusual. Maybe a voltage regulator issue?

Very carefully release the screw from the pod and tilt it forward. Look at the plugs that go in the back as maybe one is loose and under acceleration it may be coming loose.

Just an update on this issues now that i know why this issue occured and how to fix it. Just incase anyone else has the same issue in the future, heres what i discovered regarding this problem.

So it would seem that our digital ac pod's are very sensitive to the voltage being pumped into the electrical system via the alternator. Recently ive been through two aftermarket alternators whos voltage output was exceeding 14.7 max volts that the oem alternator should limit itself to regardless of fhe rpm while crusing at any speed.

During my testing of my alternator issues, i found that whenever the alternator was exceeding more them 14.7 volts the a/c pod display would turn off but the pod would still accept input from the buttons for temp and fan speeds etc but the a/c system would be off until the voltage dipped below 14.7 volts.

So how to fix this problem, well ive now switch back to an oem alternator and the a/c pod hasnt switched off once since its been installed in the car and my voltages while driving have been locked in at around 14+ volts.

Love it how the guy who spruiked that he never speeds posts a video that was almost certainly from his mobile phone while driving :D

Seriously though, that was actually a constructive post, considering how many aftermarket alternator options are out there it's a good demonstration of why the correct, working part is paramount. Glad you were able to get this sorted. Hope you also have a splash shield fitted to stop water getting in to the alternator, don't think many people still drive their zeds in the wet these days.

Looks like @Instamatic nailed it with the faulty voltage regulator.

Some of us still do but it's better done alone.
Then you don't have to worry about scrubbing the stains from the passenger seat.
Wet roads, big roundabouts, the looks on the faces of other motorists...
