The part number in this thread is a discontinued part. I have been trying to search for a used replacement that is still in working order but to date have not found anything. Is anyone aware if there is a compatible replacement solenoid valve that could be used?

I have read there is a way to by-pass the solenoid but this would mean that the steering is ultra light all the time which I am not keen on given the car is for my son who will be on his Ps.

Here is a picture of the part:

That part is the same for turbo and non turbo cars, if you haven't already, give Nissan dealers in your area a shot. they did sell 300zx non turbo cars, long shot but worth a go.
Nissan may have used that valve in other model cars, from the years around 89 to 95.. wreckers have rows of old nissans.

This is one part I'm actually surprised the aftermarket hasn't picked up on and released an alternative replacement for as they do fail and are hard to find in good condition still. I mucked around with an R33 skyline rack a while ago and as part of this compared the sensor. Similar design but completely different part and solenoid and may have been a different thread from memory too.

Beaver's advice is good, check the site below for compatibility list. Lots of ZXs were exported to the US and the UK has a big ZX forum so maybe try to contact forum members or used ZX parts specialists there. Also appears to be a part used on Infinity cars. May also be possible to repair the solenoid itself, it doesn't look like it is a sealed unit that can't be dismantled - I am having power steering problem as well, and ZX manual troubleshooting guide is so far pointing me at the solenoid but I haven't checked it yet. Will let you know if I think it is repairable. Try checking other ZX owner's forums as well.
