Where is the location of this relay? In tech section says inside driverside guard area. There is no rely that I can see in this area. Are 2 seaters different to 2+2? I will hook battery up and disconnect the plug on the starter to see if I can hear the rely click but knowing the area to be looking at first would be a plus.. cheers in advance.
I think drivers side is a reference... ...to left hand drives? So passenger side on ours. Not 100% sure but have a slight memory it's passenger side for us.
All the same (coupe/2+2)...... Near fusible link box/boost sensor..... between brake booster and firewall
You sure? Hate being unsure and did a search, it's under the lining in the passenger wheel well, towards the rear or just in front of the ECU. Or is it reversed on left and right hand drive? *confused*
I don't have an auto...... but I've noticed it many times in the online workshop manual, and they are on opposite sides for rh/lh drive. Is it possible they may have moved it on various year models ?
I checked inside the driverside guard nothing in there [/URL][/IMG] This is what is where the wiring harness comes into engine bay near brake booster [/URL][/IMG] And when i disconnect the plug on the starter motor and turn the key this is the only rely I can hear click. Its in the driverside foot well behind the fuses. [/URL][/IMG] Not sure if it makes any difference the car is a 90 2 seater Jap spec The symptoms are starter motor only clicks when key is turned but if you short the connections across on the back of the starter motor it turns the motor over fine.
Ive had a good look at the wiring diagram on page EL-17 of the FSM and from what I'm seeing is that manual cars dont have a starter relay, start signal is straight from the key barrel. The starter relay is part of the inhibitor system in the auto. If you have a look the connectors to the inhibitor and starter realy have an "a" on them for auto, but just below the starter relay there is a bridge with an 'M' on it, bypassing the relay and going straight to the starter. Please correct me if im wrong but thats how im reading it.
EL-17 Diagram You are correct, that's what the diagram indicates. :agree: However, on another diagram, there is a starter relay. A vehicle fitted with a manual transmission has a Black wire with a White tracer, connected to both the relay coil & the contacts supply terminals. This wire is connected to the ignition switch. [An automatic transmission equipped vehicle has a White wire connected to the contacts supply terminal, which is connected to the inhibitor switch.] A Brown wire with a White tracer is connected to the other relay coil terminal, which connects to the Theft Warning Relay. When the starter relay is energised, voltage will be present on the Black wire with the Yellow tracer, connected to the normally open relay contact terminal, which connects to the starter motor. With the ignition switch in the start position, there should be voltage on the Black wire with the Yellow tracer at the starter motor.
Bumping this up. I just had a look in the passeger mud guard but it's not there. Anyone know where it is?
