    Hi all.
Who has done the LS2 truck coil conversion?
I’m interested to know what kind of boost level these can handle?
    Cheers.

Rob260 (RGS PERFORMANCE) sells a kit for this

A lot of the guys stateside do this as a “power mod” though it’s only needed above 20psi really or when spark blow out is encountered. Ptu delete is handy but.

    30psi + should be doable

    Thanks Procky.
Yeah I see a lot of the guys in the states seem to love the mod.
My only interest in it is because I plan on screwing boost up, the turbo is good for 38-40 psi.
So wondering if the LS2 coils will be good for that, or do I need to go CDI.
It’s way out of my realm of expertise lol

I’ve seen some of the state side guys, particularly one testing gtx2860 gen 2 up to 800rwhp and 40psi used these or a very similar GM type coil

LS truck coils have been used in 1,500whp (1,118wkw) turbo LS cars, i'm sure they'll work on yours at 3.5ms - 4ms.
But the stock coils are good too, factory dwell on them is 1.8ms - 2.1ms. you can set them to 2.25ms - 2.4ms and they do good on higher boost, above 2.8ms they saturate and heat up fast and by 3ms current levels off.

    That’s good info!
Do you know how a spark capacitor effects that or need for that

    Thanks for the reply.
I have no coils at the moment, and do like the idea of doing away with the PTU

    No, I don't know.

Below are some coils tested on the same equipment.

R8 coil vs 300zx coil vs D514a LS2 coil (no heat sink)

Currently running d585 coils in my zed, mainly to do away with the ptu but am running a maximum of 20psi. Will be running more psi in the future which another reason i put them in...

    Hey thanks for the reply.
Did you follow the Z-Shack modification?
Looks like they fit very well

    Yes followed the Z-Shack info,
i modded the coils brackets to have a more oem fitment, rather than grinding the rocker covers to have them sit on the plug and not being fastened down didn't sit right with me.

    Yeah fair enough.
Can I ask where you got the coils and plugs from?

I scored the coils searching US ebay, 2nd hand for about $130 au for eight of them. And the plugs i got locally off ebay $30 for 8

Did you used the oem coil extension?

Yes, but had to make up a connection between the coils and extension. with the spare oem coils i had laying around i pinched bits off them to make the connection.

Nice work! I have a set of new OEM extensions that I bought to do same with but won’t need them with the ash plenum. @Boll! if you’re reading the extensions can go free with a set of coils & plugs

OK, so you needed to extend yours because you have them sitting above - bolted to the plenum?
Where as on the Z-Shack they are sitting under the plenum so he just snipped the end bit of the OEM coil boot which pushes over the spark plug?

yes i made mine to fit like the oem coils, and yes he just snipped the boot and sat the coil directly on the plug... but im not sure how much trouble he would go through with changing plugs tho?? plenium pull?? is the reason i made mine like oem
