Dead TPS cause no start?

As the title states, would a dead tps sensor prevent a Z32 from starting?

I know I have a low voltage (0 volts actually) reading from my tps reported by my haltech platinum pro. I decided to crack open the tps for a cleaning as suggested here: http://twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/technical/view/1102089/HOW-TO-Refurbish-your-TPS.html

When I opened up the unit I noticed the contact board for the brushes was bent/cracked. My guess is this breakage is why the unit isn't working (this likely happened during my recent move where a lot of parts had to be boxed and shipped)...

Anyways, I have ordered a new tps unit but I still wanted to know if that alone would cause the car to turn over but not start. Thanks if anyone has any insights

Don't think so. I just unplugged my tps and hard idle sensor cables and started the car. No issues.

Perfect, thanks for testing that out for me. I'll keep running some other diagnostics. Thanks again!

Depends. If the 5v is shorted to ground it will take out all the other sensors on that 5v feed too. Thus giving false data to the ecu
