Legalities of a 2k front bar on an aus spec

    Hey everyone,

I'm looking into putting a 2000 spec front bar on my Zed but the thought of legality came to mind. Is it legal to have the bar on the car? Since it would change the position of the indicators and the like? I can understand getting away with it on a Jap spec since they're imported after the fact, but would it be different for an aus spec?

Thanks in advance. Oh yeah and I'm located in Victoria.

Can’t see why not -it’s a factory part etc and your factory indicators could easily be retained in addition to the 2k indicators if you were worried about that.

Aren't the indicators different for a 2K bar?

Yeah but aus spec indicators are in the front -where the fog lights are for jap

Like Rob said, aus-spec's have a parker / indicator combo light where jap spec has fog / parker.

KnightMiner you don't actually have to connect the 2k indicators, you can leave them unplugged & run your standard aus-spec ones in the usual location. You'll be fine.

In my experience stuff this specific and trivial is rarely if ever on the radar of the cops in Vic. If you’re not packing ridiculously oversized fart cannons, drag racing in populated areas and haven’t “stanced” your car into looking like it’s axels are broken then you’ll be fine.

You’d really have to know z32s well to pick up differences in model years with bumpers. There are plenty of people with cheap fiberglass bumpers running around and I’ve never once seen or heard of it becoming an issue.

I don't think it is the police that you have to worry about as long as the indicators can be seen from the front and there an angle to the side but the insurance company you have insurance with. For some reason I believe the angle is 45 degrees but you need to find out for yourself. Different states different rules. Check with them, it's not until you have an accident that they come up with "this is a modified vehicle sorry insurance null & void".

To put it simply, if you notify your Insurer that you have updated/upgraded the bar to a later model bar as they no longer make the same year bar, they usually have no issues with it. As it is a " Factory " bar it is legal and it passes the ADR guidelines as far as i know, hence you can but them through Nissan.

I seem to remember the 45 degree angle rule too.
The 2K front bar will give your radiator/ac more air, so it is a good upgrade and you can still use your Auspec blinkers.
You could even colour code the 2K indicator blanks and look a bit different. 20180124_002323.jpg
