This thread is relevant to people who were reading the window rattle thread that recently disappeared

For those interested, I have cut the relevant information from zx299's post here:

The upper window slider assembly has 6 parts in it and seeing as mine have probably been in the car since new, I decided to replace the whole assembly on both windows which should see me right for another 25yrs. This was one of those instances where I had no choice but to use oem parts

As expected when working on the zed, fitting the new sliders was a fiddley job. I did the second one much quicker than the first (naturally) and it was not anywhere near as daunting a task as I had imagined. It's simply a matter of dropping the top seatbelt bolt (door mounted belts), removing the inner & outer covers and winding the window 3/4 up to gain access to the slider assembly. Tiny hands would certainly have made the job a lot easier, but once I'd finished the transformation was fantastic. No more rattling windows ..... it's now a smooth positive action and it looks like the glass now seals better against the rubber cushion on the targas. Should be a huge improvement next time it rains.

Isn't it amazing how all that information AND a photo has been copied (and now classified as 'relevant information') from a deleted post that was deemed by moderators to contain no technical content

It certainly is reassuring to know that the moderators are making sure the forum doesn't get all cluttered up with posts about stupid stuff like zed repair & maintenance

Relevant was a poor choice of word.

It is relevant, the previous (old) thread didn't have the pictures that are in the new one, but I personally think that new pics and member's updates should be used to update and resurrect old threads to keep the info relevant. I usually get shot down for digging up an old thread.
This is the thread that turned me off the idea of trying to fix my window rattle. Kieren's comments.
So when zx299 reported that he successfully sorted his out, without much bother, I am back in for fixing that.

Good job MOD for combining the threads.

I reckon that the Mods should Just Do I.T.
We just needed what we have now.

    Lower Window Sliders ..........

In my efforts to correct the Rattly Window syndrome in the zeds I mistakenly thought that one of the lower window sliders had also collapsed so I got some of them as well. (because these are internal you can get away with just replacing the slider and covers, which makes this job a lot cheaper)

I subsequently found out it was just the window stopper that needed tightening, so I put the lower sliders (which are both different) in the toolbox for the future (eventually these may fail but you have to remove the window for that one, so they can wait)

Out of the five Window Slider kits I ordered, only one of us needed to change the Lower Window sliders. So that shows that most of the wear and tear happens to the Upper Slider and Lower Slider failure is a 'not so common' occurrence.

p.s I would have posted the Lower Window Slider update sooner, but you can't access the forum when you're BANNED

Having received some replacement parts for my window, I decided to look into it. I prefer not to start pulling bits off my car if I don't have any chance of fixing it, like needing parts to replace any broken bits I might find.
So this is what I found. Looking under this foam patch on window frame, I found an access hole.

Look in that hole, found a missing NUT.

Well replacing that has stopped 95% of the window movement.

Now I just have to find that nut, if it isn't rattling around somewhere, then it is wedged somewhere that might cause a problem.

QLDZDR, the situation you describe is a little different to the 'Rattly Window Syndrome'. The nut you describe holds the Window Slider 'runner' to the body of the door. If this nut is missing, it will allow the runner to move slightly within the door ....... this will stop the window travel from being 'forced' to follow the contour of the frame which holds it against the targa rubbers.

The Rattly Window Syndrome is just what it sounds like ..... the window rattles and clangs because the Upper Window Slider has either broken (which means the window is floating unsecured) or has lost it's cover (which means the slider is able to rattle about within the runner. The Cover acts like a spacer)

The Rattling can be minimised by having the window fully closed or 75% open (where the window is held slightly by the window seals) ........... both of these 'band aid remedies' are extremely inconvenient and don't work when you hit a dip or bump in the road.

I can't believe how long I put up with my drivers side Rattly Window when the remedy is so simple (it serves myself right for believing the forum 'scuttlebutt' about the massive complexity of the repair :()

I was contacted by a member the other day who wanted to know if it's necessary to replace all 6 pieces of the Upper Window Slider to stop the window rattle ......... the answer is NO. The rattle is caused by the failure of the Slider (roller) and/or the Slider Cover (little cap), and they are the easiest bits to replace (fortunately).

I replaced all 6 pcs because I figured it was only a bit more work to replace the whole lot while I was at it (it is a LOT more fiddly, especially if you don't have access to a variety of tools)
