Front or side intercoolers?

I have a front intercooler but I seem to over heat really fast as I'm guessing air isn't getting to my radiator fast enough, I've checked leaks, air locks, caps, but I don't know if it's my fan not pulling hard enough or is it just the intercooler being in the way? Should I get the 2 side intercoolers or change my fan or any other suggestions? Hate it heating over 100'C within 10-15minutes of driving by road rules

Cooling system is new and nothing wrong with it but wondering how to fix the problem as stated above

 

Unless you're tracking your car, a front mount generally isn't going to cause what you've described. Plenty on here running front mounts without overheating issues in general day to day driving.

My guess is you've got air in the system. Our cars can be a pita to bleed. Do a search, plenty on it.

 

Thx I've tried to check for air locks and seems fine I think it's my fan and viscous clutch may be too stiff and not pulling enough air. Should it be fixed or replaced?

 

If replacing make sure you buy genuine.

If your cooling system is new & there is nothing wrong with it.
Why are you thinking there is something wrong with the fan & clutch?

The fan & clutch are part of the cooling system.

What are the circumstances where you are seeing this 100 degree temperature reading?
In stop/start traffic, or on the open road?
Air conditioning on or off?

I see you're in Cairns.
How's the humidity this time of year?
Humidity has an effect on engine performance & air conditioning efficiency.
Both of these aspects will place additional load on the cooling system.

 

Fan and clutch are all I can put it down too now as a mate thinks it's the clutch too. It had a different clutch and fan but was way too loud so we changed to this one but it seems too stiff to get enough air flow.
it's normal driving in town stopping starting not flogging it, air con is on low recycle, on overdrive but A/T is on so not power button. Temp is usually 32'C and humidity is usually 60-80% mainly 80 tho lol

 

I think the fan clutch could be part of the problem, also is there a relatively sealed floor between the intercooler and the radiator ?

If not the intercooler will already be significantly reducing air flow to the radiator, and if there was no bottom air guide, what is getting through would just leak out under the radiator.

Thx guys I might try putting in the old noisy fan and see if that helps. And yeah briz I have the stock shield but with the work that's been done to the car I prob need a better shield thx.

 

Is the fan shroud installed?

 

Seems like quite a lot wrong with it if it overheats in such short time.
As above, it will be the viscous fan clutch.

Yeah fan shrouds installed. Going on blocks Monday till I fix this. Old fan/clutch going in and better belly pan on the way soon and prob change my front bumper to the 2000 model which is more open for air flow Temps here in cairns are a killer this time of year and humidity isn't helping. When driving early morning or night it's perfect temp but during the day is too hot to drive. But not for long hopefully

What exactly is new?

 

All hoses radiator fan clutch fluids the lot is only a few weeks or so old. It's just the temp here has gone up so I need another solution really

 

sounds to me like air in the system, i live in perth and our summers are bloody hot and have no overheating issues.
Have you tried the old 2L bottle half full upside down in your radiator cap and leave the car running for half an hour or so? See if it bubbles ?
As the air is a bitch to get out.

 

10 or 15 minutes of driving in mid 30's or so wont even wake the stock cooling system up so something is wrong.

If its not the fan clutch and all shrouds are in place then youd have to start suspecting a corroded and partially missing water pump impeller.

Does that list include a new radiator?
If it does.
Is it a brand new OEM item, or something else?

Why are you running a front mount intercooler?
Is your engine worked?
If it is & you are making substantially more HP over stock, more HP means more heat produced.
If the engine isn't worked, you don't need a front mount.
