Never tried it myself either, but can see the benefit on some motors where the valve spring pressure on the cam gears makes it challenging to get these lined up again. Assuming the belt is easy to cut all the way around.
I seen same tv show SOS on cars was a Nissan Godzilla belt change all that was done on mine not long back but now the nice new blue belt can go in the place of the oem one :br::zlove::rolleyes2:
Yes that was the show. I just watched that bit. I like the technique, I assume he lined up the timing marks that are on his nice blue belt with the timing marks on the cogs, but the technique seems like it holds everything in place, as long as it was on correctly to start.
No he did not line up marks and you cant go wrong by cutting old belt in half all the way around.So nothing has moved belt wise. Pull the old half off and just slide on new belt to hit old half then cut old half right off car then push new half on all the way. seen a video online. this guy's gets a razor cuts the belt down the middle in half. slides off the first half and slips the belt on half way then cuts off the back peice of old belt then slips the belt all the way on!! not sure how it would go on a zed though. anyone tried this method?

Sounds like a fairly simple way to do a timing belt change. Cutting it in half then sliding on the new belt would makes sure every thing is still lined up. You would not even need to worry about the marks but could potentially cause issues for the next guy that comes along if he relies on the marks being correct. Timing belt changes are not that hard you just have to be careful and they get easier each time..
Yeah you just need to play with the tensioner... It looks way to easy to slide new (unstretched) belt on, without loosing of the tensioner... I'm not saying it's not possible but I would need to try it myself to prove it...
