Got sick of not having a place to put cans, so I designed and printed this thing out of ABS. Replaces the Ashtray pocket (not just the ashtray itself) and works like a charm.
It also can accommodate the little globe that illuminates the ashtray, so you can see where to put your drink when driving at night. Luxury.

    Anyone want one?

That's cool, sign me up for one.

Can you still use the tray cover?

I used to put my drink can there, but didn't like the unfinished look without the ashtray. Yes, needs a tray cover that also incorporates a lip to hide that exposed screw.
Using that hole to hold a can of drink, the light bulb needs to be replaced with an LED, it gets hot.

Yeah, I've seen that one. As far as I can tell, it's a stick-on lid that uses the standard ashtray housing to hold the drink - not ideal, as the floor of the housing isn't flat and your drinks will wobble as you drive along. Mine would be cheaper including shipping than that as well.

Also, I don't like the idea of using silicone to glue anything down. Unless you're installing a shower screen, that's the hack way of doing things. I like my mods to be easily reversible and I'm sure many of you do too. Here's what my design looks like in full, 100% bolt-in:

Sketchy: you can't install the standard ashtray lid over my design, but I've got a design in the works that will look a little more neatly integrated than this one and would probably be cheaper to make (and thus sell) as well.

Looks like this will sit on top of your bit and finish it off nicely

Yep I'm down for one, you think you can make a matching cover up to suit your current design similar to the other one that was posted up. Would make it a real neat tidy package

Does it take a Gatorade or Powerade bottle ?

It's really only for cans. You'd need to hack apart your centre console plastics if you wanted to fit anything larger. If you're prepared to do that, I can certainly make one that'll take 600ml bottles like Gatorade, Coke etc.

As long as it takes a wild turkey stubby I'm set. The indigo style ones only had same size opening as yours, was handy in my other zed, I took a template of it to make another down the track if I could be bothered, definitely looks better than the ashtray

Sorry dude, no can do. That's like asking Coca-Cola if you can buy the recipe for Coke.

I have to say that's a great one. I'm guessing Nissan thought the Zed was that fast you would be at the pub before you needed a roadie :p

I am pretty sure I used to have a Powerade bottle there
    .
I took the ashtray out and put the bottle in. Also had some foam in there to fill in the corner. That is when I realised the light bulb was warming up my drink.

CBF to go outside with a Powerade bottle to check,

You can jam bigger bottles in the ashtray pocket without this insert and they should be okay, but if you want an actual cup to hold a bottle that big then the little tangs for the ashtray mean it'll either have very thin walls and be super weak, or sections will need to be cut away to allow a cup with a larger radius.

The main function of this is to hold cans, as you can't reseal them. With Gatorade and the like you can just chuck the lid back on and put them in the glovebox or on the passenger seat. There's also an issue with bottle height - they'll get in the way of your left hand if your car is a manual, while cans are much lower and don't have that problem.

This design I've got here is perfect for the average 250ml-500ml can, small/medium McDonald's cups, and - though I definitely don't condone drink-driving - will fit things like glass beer bottles with no problem (VB may be a squeeze though).

Will buy when/if a suitable lid or "display cover" design is completed :D

Oh well, it was worth a shot. I'll just measure it up myself :)
