Technically you're changing the structural integrity of the side impact zone no matter what arguments are given in response to this post, that's how it's legally perceived.

Which means that any particular manufacturer of hinge, hinge placement and adjustments to a locking mechanism would need to be impact tested before legitimate engineering sign-off. If that were successful, then that particular modification would be passable in the future.

If you want to do it legally, then off-the-shelf won't pass, but there are decent custom fabricators who can have their work engineered.

i'm 99% confident that this is the installation manual of the type that you have:)

Weld on type hinges with electric actuators came with my car (but not perfectly positioned). "Guys who were installing them didn't remove rubber molding of the doors when they were welding... And that pushed the doors off by few 5mm"... Not nice...
However hydraulics were stuffed and electric actuators were just too slow...

I decided no to muck around with them as I would need to cut them off / re-weld them to fit 100% and get hydraulics of right size and capacity. So I re-purposed screw on lambo hinges from my old skyline... It was way to much work to get them to fit but they did on the eventually... :)

Weld on type sits almost at 85-90° vs Screw on type that sits around 75° while fully extended upwards.

Weld on type requires additional layer of metal to be welded to the door frame as existing door skin is too thin and will bent on door weight alone.
More metal could be used on the car frame for additional support and stiffness.

Screw on type without hydraulics can be opened like a normal door at 35-40° before lifting (enough to get in and out if hydraulic fail).

:rolleyes2: Thank you for all that but no there not like mine at all. No welding with mine and all is very neat bolted in.All so if I want it can be put back to stock with no cutting welding just bolt straight back, but thank you for the above, its a good read.:D Cheers Peter RTE38 :br::zlove::D
