Had a local bloke drop in today and his zed motor keeps running after the ignition is turned off.

The only way he could stop the motor is by stalling it in gear. I figured it was most likely the ignition relay sticking but I thought I'd ask if anyone has come across this problem

He said it happened without any warning....... he drove home from the servo and had to stall it in his garage. Dash lights etc all turn off but motor keeps running

If I can't get any additional input from here I'll fish out a spare relay and swap it for him next week

Sounds like an ignition relay sticking.

check the ignition switch / key barrel.
when the key is turned too off/acc position, it should be open circuit.

Also an alarm immobiliser that is faulty could cause this. Also a faulty turbo timer. Worth a look if the relay doesn't fix it.

Are you sure there isn't a turbo timer keeping it running?

Haven't caught up with him yet......

I've been crook, but he tells me it's not doing it anymore ..... Yahoo, a self healing zed

The dash lights etc went off with the ignition, so that would rule out the turbo timer.

It doesn't have an alarm fitted, so that eliminates that possibility.

I keep coming back to the ignition relay, but I don't know how a relay would fix itself. A stuck relay is usually because the contacts have fused together.

I don't see any way of diagnosing the problem unless it happens again. Thanks for the input
