The 'bastard hose' is the hardest as far as i know. Almost an engine out job to change.

as far as I know the ones that start at the back of the engine dive around either side towards the throttle bodies and down to the turbos.
Also note that if poor quality water has been used there are other aspects in the cooling system that can fail - core plugs, the pipes at the front (waterpump area) and heater hoses/hardpipes not to mention the heater core itself

    The bastard hose...

located on the LHS of the rear of the engine can be accessed either by tilting or removing the g/box. To the uninitiated, it appears as an OMG an almost impossible task and engine out job but for anyone that has removed the g/box would have seen that that hose is accessed by just allowing the g/box to tilt downwards by undoing the g/box mount or removal of the box. Much easier to do on the hoist though.
Lots of work though just to fix one hose.

    matter of perspective.

The bastard hose is certainly up there on the (sh!t hose) list.

All the under plenum hoses are easy to remove or replace with plenum off, but near impossible with plenum on.

My personal least favourites are the two little hoses behind the metal hard pipes at the front of the motor. Not that hard to physicly replace, but you have to strip the radiator, clutch fan and hub, fan shroud, hard pipes and a bunch of other things to get to them. Turns what should be a quick job to a half day job.

Passenger side rear turbo coolant hose is the worst by far

ive also had the hard lines attached to the turbo rust through on amtes car, getting the passenger side hard line replaced was not fun.

And mine is developing a slow leak where that hose pushes onto the barb. I can feel the hose is old and perished. Any tips?

    Replace it?

Really they are not that bad (not fun but nothing's impossible). Using heater hose with the same OD as stock so as you can reuse the spring clamps will make your life easier.

If you do it yourself please do not use fuel line - I know it sounds like a dumb comment but I know sometimes heater hose the correct size is hard to find and I know some auto stores claim the fuel line is capable - most times thats BS, the fuel line will go hard and brittle and break off.

Cheers guys. The car isn't even registered so I'm certainly not driving it. Just noticed as its up on stands at the moment.

And yes replace it is the obvious answer. Thanks
