Violently Missing

So recently after I've been pushing the 300 a little bit hard it has started missing really badly. Anybody know what the problem is? I think its in cylinder one, due to the fact that when I pulled out the coil pack connector the revs didn't change, but if I pull out any of the others, the revs drop.

Thanks in advance for reading my confusing as hell paragraph.

    Sounds like you're.....

....on the right track & it is related to #1 cylinder.

As far as what the problem is, the 'crystal ball' is a little hazy, but it will be related to either the ignition system, the fuel system or compression.

I'm currently working my way through the different things regarding the ignition. I replaced the spark plugs, the coil pack connectors, put a new coil pack in it, and I'm throwing around the possibility of a new injector, but I'm a little short on cash right now so I'll have to wait a while I guess. Next time it does it I'm gonna pop a multimeter onto the coil pack connector and see if it is getting the right voltage before I go throwing a couple hundred down on a new injector.

Just remove coil and spark plug, put spark plug in coil and rest on plenum, see if you are getting spark when you crank might need a friend to do this.

Then try swapping coil and plug from cylinder 2 and 1 see if problem stays on 1.

    If it does.

Measure resistance of the injector on cylinder 1, should be 10-14 ohm, make sure you are using the low range if not an auto ranging meter.

    If injector measures ok.

Use a large screw driver or thin pipe or the like to see if you can hear inj 1 "ticking" if you are unsure listen to others to get an idea.

Check the easy things first that don't cost money, like fuel lines (pressure is present), injector (clicking) and spark plug continuity (seeing a good spark).

Then check compression with a compression tester (rings valves, but hopefully it is something simple like a plug or even a coil pack as opposed to a ring or valve) sometimes a vacuum near the cylinder or an injector can effect one cylinder but it is uncommon in the statistics of a malfunction occurring suddenly without cause (pays to just remember it at this stage as the first three tests will show up if its one of these anyway).

    Good luck

I have a feeling that it may actually have something to do with my spark plugs, as I was driving along yesterday and the "Cat over temp warning light *" came on, and from what I understand means that un-burnt fuel was entering the cats, so I'm going to pull the spark plug out sometime next weekend when I have some time spare and see if that fixes it.

*I managed to snap a very blurry picture of the light that came on and drew it in MS paint as the picture was a shit quality. Did a bit of a reverse image search and apparently it is the light to say the cat is overheating. Is this correct?

    Yes!

That light is telling you the catalytic converter is operating above its normal operating temperature. ;)
Keep driving the vehicle & sooner or later the catalyst inside will melt & you'll be up for a replacement. :(
    Spare time?
How long does it take to check/change a spark plug?
