cleaning exhaust pipe

i had a small leak of gearbox oil onto my exhaust. whats the best way to clean the exhaust pipe so that i can get rid of the gearbox oil smell when it gets hot after a long drive ???

 

Best bet is to keep driving till the smell goes.

 

degreaser on a clean rag, if you can get to it. dont use brake or carby clean, some have extremely toxic vapours when heated (phosgene gas)
