Belt rubbing on Pulley, why?

Noticed that the belt rubs on the pulley.
I can't work out which pulley/accessory is out of alignment.
The last time the belts were replaced was at a Nissan dealer workshop (I am told).
A couple of other mechanics have been in here and should have noticed this, but no one has mentioned it.
How much clearance is the water pump pulley supposed to have from the belt that goes across its lower edge?

    Thanks.

Is your waterpumo pulley even on straight? Not sure if angle of photo or dodgy as ****

Theres two different height water pumps that fit our engines. It looks to me like the wrong sized one has been put on, and is pushing the belt forward. Did you have the pump replaced at all?

Well you havent got the fan bolted onto the water pump pulley. So it cant sit straight. Its being pulled on an angle by the belt tension. Have a look at the amount of the pump boss poking through the pulley. Its not on straight.

Put the fan on and I expect it will be fine.

Yep! The W/Pump Pulley is sitting on an angle and is at least 3-4mm 'out of line'. Belt tensioning should NEVER be done before everything is fully assembled into operating position.:zlove:

Yep, no bolts holding the pulley on. How long you been driving it like this lol!

The only thing holding the pulley on is the belt it's rubbing against ;)

David ,Just done all my Drive Belts 1989 TT a week ago and looking at my Water pump pulley it does seems to be a smaller diameter as it rotates above the Air Con drive belt.
Maybe you have a larger pulley, Alternator and Fan belt size is 4PK-1005 with good margin for tension. I imagine you have an electric fan replacement ? or is this a dismantled snap shot, If not you do need to bolt up the fan pulley to the Water pump assembly to make the water flow well, couldn't imagine it would be pushing much water around as an idler pulley ??? OK, I didn't realise that the fanclutch bolts also held the pulley on to something behind it. But of course there has to be since there isn't any pin or bolt on the front of pulley

I just took the fanclutch off to replace it with a refilled one.

If I had a larger pulley then my alternator would be spinning faster?

    yep, you are all brilliant

Yes, all I had to do is bolt the fanclutch back on. :D

    You cant in this section

You can ask for it be locked by a mod if you really feel the need

Or let it die a slow death and fall to the bottom

Another person might have a similar problem and need to ask a question in relation to the thread, so although you are done with it - it may still have value in posting, from another forum member that needs a question answered with a similar issue.

It will fall to the bottom sooner or later ;)
