Dude you seem very confused and not making much sense, either that or i just woke up.

ANYWAY..... The grommet will only be on the top of the spark plug, thats why you couldnt get the spark lead on.

And you know what you did when you tried to force the lead on right?
Yep you pushed that grommet all the way to the base of the plugs ceramic insulator.

Now your spark plug socket isnt long enough to engage the plug....

When ever this has happened to me ive either flicked the grommet off the plug with wire or get a DEEPER socket and be sure its engaging the plug.

Dude go buy a friken torch or download an app and stop guessing FFS!

Find out if its actually threaded or your socket just cant reach it due to an obstruction.

    This is good advice!

    Try the easy things first.

that's an old trick from way back when ....... around the time you used a crank handle to start ya model T

Although its still done today (and yes I've done it within the last 2 years to a Toyota diesel engine with gummed up rings) its generaly not a good idea on todays modern motors.....

Like I said, I can't get enough light in there to see no matter how hard I try because of the angle of this stupid thing. What I do see when I shine a torch down there is that I can't see the corners of the nut bit of the spark plug but there does appear to be a black ring above it, however this could just be due to poor lighting as black and poor lighting are hard to tell apart when your looking into a little space that light barely makes it down.

On the basis that you have just pushed the grommet down then you won't have started the plug on its thread so a magnet should be able to get it out.

Is the thing you can see down the hole all around the plug or only on one side?

Have you checked the socket itself has nothing stuck up it?

Another thought is a 16mm tube spanner used by plumbers but you will have to find something to drive it on the other end. At least it will reach past the grommet.

Do you have an inspection mirror (like dentists use) or a makeup mirror?

My guess is that the Spark-plug Socket that you used had a rubber insert(to hold the plug from falling out when removing/replacing). This has come out of the socket and is sitting on top of the plug. You can get at it with a pair of extended length/sharp-nosed pliers(and once you get hold of it, it will pull out without much drama).
A nuisance, but not an insurmountable problem.:(
I think you have tried to out-think this problem to a point at which you are now confusing yourself(and several other members, as well).
Just calm down and take another go at it with the long-nosed/long handled pliers(they aren't expensive and they DO come in very handy at times like this).:zlove:
(P.S. Sorry syntax, I just noticed that you already identified this issue yesterday.)

Or a piece of stiff wire, bent at the end to "Hook" the piece out.

Do you REALLY want to extend this thread with countless posts on "how big?/what shape?/what gauge wire?/how long?". LOL???:br:

Guys he's lost the grommet on the plug when tightening then pushed it home with the coil pack.
Just use a longer/deeper socket. Done.

    END OF THREAD.

Dont see why you cant see down to the plug. I take it you removed the balance tube!.
Take off your bonnet if its that difficult, just four bolts then you will be see straight down. Get a good torch, not one of the crap LED ones.

All depends on how long and what shape my wire is.:):p

I'm starting to think you don't even have a piece of wire. Pics or get out Graham :)

+1 for some kind of obstruction stopping the socket from reaching. I doubt a threaded plug would feel the same resistance turning boths ways. Also if you had threaded it so badly that it felt like there was no thread, a spark plug socket would pull it straight out if it still had its rubber in the top.

Not sure how you can't see down into the hole on the rear passenger side?
Its deep but its not that obscured. Like others have said, have you removed the balance tube entirely?

Longest pliers I could find were 7inches and they just slit right down, the handle barely sticking out the top... and they were $25 :/.

With the no light thing this is grainy as **** as my camera doesn't do well in low light (yes this was with flash and a torch) what you can see in the photo is about what I can see, the white bit there and then just nothing. Either way I think we have established that something is stopping the socket from grabbing the spark plug but getting it out is the problem. Thers like 10mm clearance around the sides of the spark plug and I think whatever is blocking it is taking up that entire 10mm space :/
I guess I will look somewhere else and see if theres about 10inch long nose pliers which will get in there.

i find it hard to believe you are having so much trouble looking down the spark plug hole. honestly, with any half assed led or narrow beam torch you would light that sucker up and see everything

go to bunnings and buy one of the LED inspection torches they are about $16

Honestly i've been on 12 hour nightshifts the whole time i've been posting about this and most of my time has been spent trying to fix this in the easiest way possible in the hour before work so I could hopefully take my car not my wifes to work that day. I guess I will have to leave it until I have a reasonable amount of time to spend on it and try harder i guess.
