Did you cut out the air vent?

Mine's sitting just about flawlessly, it's not glued down in that photo

Naah didnt have too.
Mine took some persuasion and grinding down of the ribs in the middle at the back. Then weight to get it stick with sikaflex

 

I also bought one of these from the UK. How do the gauges stay in the shroud? What do you mean about cutting air con vents?

 

What are your gaps like? I've got a DSLR, I'll get some more photos soon.

I'll have my installation photos up in a few days. There is a large air conditioning vent underneath the dash, where the gauge holder sits. For a seamless install it needs to be cut out as it fouls and will be forever forcing the holder upwards. Don't want the long term effects of that, nor anything working against the gluing. There was an easy workaround - i cut a large section of the plastic out and patched the hole.

My gauges came with individual brackets that bolted on at the back, tightening against the rear surrounds of the holder.

 

See mine wasn't hitting a vent, was odd. I'll grab photos tonight, bout to leave for work
My gauges have electrical tape around the body that makes em a snug fit.

I pulled the engine out of my Z and have been in talks with Mungy to get it rebuilt into a high power twin turbo. Goal is 10.9ET with full interior and auto trans.

 

Far out slickpencil, that's disgraceful! Got the whole lot - body, windows and rims.... hope it came off ok without any damage!

 

you could probably imagine how I felt when I saw it and hoping its not white paint cooking under that heat. yeah, I panic went straight to the closest pro car wash/detailers. most of it came off with clay bar, rubbing compound. 2 and half hours $100 all up.

Initially I thought someone was angry at me, but then saw there were a few more other cars along my street that got done as well. so sad.

How long did it take you to pull the engine? I've ordered a 120k service kit and am thnking I might pull the engine to do a turbo upgrade whilst I have some work to do on it.




Today, well yesterday, I replaced all mouldings, fitted a 2k bar, boomex skirts, replaced aftermarket side mirrors with stockies, dropped the car by a further 30mm all round, replaced interior handles, surrounds, and fitted a new targo hook.

Yeah for sure. In fact I havent got it registered yet, so I might go ahead and get the blue slip done (which all should be good except for the hicas light is staying on - n/a rear end conversion so I need to cancel this light) and once this is done, go ahead with the pull.

I have a mate with a hoist and an engine stand so I could use that.

I havent pulled an engine before so it will be the blind leading the blind, unless we can get some experience over to help.

 

Just take your time, it will come out eventually, without cutting anything.
The next time I pull the engine, I'm doing it the following way:
1. Dash out
2. Air con core under dash out (fan and heater core can stay)
3. Feed engine loom out firewall
Why? With the air con lines disconnected and the engine loom out of the way, its a hell of alot easier to get to the bell housing bolts!

Don't forget:
Easier to remove power steering pump from engine than have power steering fluid everywhere
Alternator is wired to starter motor, so you will need to disconnect the wires (I raised the engine a bit with a crane to get better access)
And last but not least, the oil pressure sender is on the bottom of the engine - I always forget to unplug this wire!!!

I built up the courage to install my S2 PTU. My S1 has never missed a beat (been though 330,000km..) but can't risk the solders melting in this heat.

S2 is majorly different: no hesitation, more power and better idle. Hope it does some wonders to my fuel bills also.
