I have a 1991 Targa top Non turbo 300ZX. The lights are that bad that its almost imposable to drive it at night. I have had a look thro other problems posted but didnt find anything on lights. Yes I have upgraded the globes. The aligning screws are almost buggered on both High & low beams. If I decide to buy both new lights assemblies complete what would I be looking for?

If the lights aren't aligned properly it isn't going to help your illumination problem.
The Z32 headlights are not very good on lowbeam even if working correctly.
I believe there are "Tamiya" gears available that are suitable replacements for worm adjusters or this could be a USA related item.
Do you have good wiring connectivity?
A bad earth will affect your lights.
There are used headlights available on the forum, some like new & others in a similar condition to what you already have.
If you want to go the route of purchasing brand new you have the Nissan HID's available, they were only $5,400.00 a pair through your Nissan dealer.
Or you could go for the aftermarket HID kits on eBay.

There's a kit from remote helicopter servos that replace the adjustment gears on the headlights.
OEM 2k Xenon's are US$1600 (plus freight) but will require loom modifications.

Cheap HID kits are readily available through ebay or jaycar (only 6000k kits from jaycar), but will require operational adjusters.

There are occasionally members selling good pairs of 2nd hand headlights. Personally sourced a set from a '97 model from member mmarshall. Bit higher priced than most, but mounts were all 100%, rubbers like new, adjusters fully operational and no blemishes/ rust on the internal reflectors.

This is what is needed for the replacement of the adjusters:

Tamiya, Diff Bevel Gear Set(four of/two per H/light).

    Where in Queensland are you?
Are you going to pull the lights apart ?

In the past 6 300ZX's I have owned, every one had crap headlights except the Z31, and those were pop up lights. I came to the conclusion that the position of the headlights was the problem, not the bulbs themselves, so I just used my driving lights everywhere I went ... way better!

I find the high beam reflectors to be quite good.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

    Once you get the

projector lenses properly focussed and the lights aimed as per the tech manual, you may be surprised at just how good the low beam lights are (just ask Abraham, who I followed most of the way to Dubbo). As for the high beam, bore-sight them (parallel with the car center-line, parallel to the road surface) with a 3/4 load of petrol on board - they also are actually pretty good (Lamborghini thought enough of the Z32 lighting set-up that they used them unmodified on the Diablo). I would also recommend using something like the Philips 'Vision-Plus' globes, which while still 50 watts come in a range of enhanced brightness, from 50+ to 80+ (there may even be a 100+).

I was considering fitting driving lights, but that meant changing my stock blinker/parkers.
So I bought the altezza clear style blinker/parker to put on the corners and then looked into an easy way to upgrade my standard blinker/parker to a driving light. My idea was to dremel the diffused blinker lens and replace with a clear piece of lexan that I would glue with marine acrylic.
Replace the blinker bulb with this light because the blinker assy is low heat plastic. [IMG]

Then I realised I would have to go to the wreckers to get some bulb holder plugs. *yawn*
I had previously purchased some low heat 120 LED H4 bulbs ($10 a pair delivered)

these only need blade contact connectors, which I have so I decided to try and adapt them.

I noticed that later model Zeds had a cornering light feature, so I decided to use the Altezza Clear lens blinkers and see what happens.
The result was quite ordinary. I need to drive around a bit more and get used to it, but it wasn't dazzling.

I have decided to leave them like this, because I have some H4 Hi/Lo to adapt to my large reflectors. I just haven't had the opportunity to pull the lights out to attempt the mod.

Good info. It looks like I have to remove both the light assy's and replace the broken adjusters and then re-align them.I have upgraded the globes.

Looks like I will have to. By the info received so far it looks like first move is to replace all the broken worm screws and then ealign the lights OR as Im doing now run them on high beam.

    Are you in Brisbane?

I paid $75 for my Hi/Lo H4 style HID kit.
The ballast units are huge, I will have problems finding a mounting point.

If you need a quick fix, just put a wide bumper sticker over the lower? part of your headlight to block the high area of the illumination. Use your high beam setting.
