I'm just finishing up my sound system and need to place my microphone for hands free. The obvious place is top of the a pillar, but damned if it doesn't look ugly from the passenger seat.

Recommendations? I was thinking behind the center mirror. Can anyone speak for wimd noise with the roof off? Am I dreaming hoping the hands free to be still good with the targas off?

By using bluetooth with my phone, people find it hard to hear me with the targas off and yelling at them.. ahah

Mines run underneath the cluster hood and comes out above the right hand side pod. It wedges between the pod and hood.

    Basically invisible and very useable.

Seems like the best place for it there.

In the sun visor would be a good spot. About as close to your mouth as you can get.

Forget hands free with the roof off at speed though

Yes, back in the 90's when we all had Nokia car kits, the best place to mount the mic was the sun visor. You can adjust the visor to bring the edge with the mic closer to your face and and minimise wind noise.

Is there some way you could get it to sit on the steering wheel? On the opposite side of the cruise switches.

Thanks for the ideas fellas, plenty there! I'm liking Dean's idea of just under the gauge hood on the right (left maybe for less wind noise?). Seems pretty easy too. Big thing for me not being able to see it - damn they're ugly when they are visible!

Anyone successfully used a mic with the roof off?

The 370 has the mic in the roof light position. That way your passenger can also talk to the caller. Dunno how it would go with the existing roof fan (remove it??) and with the Targa's off.

Kind of useless accessory in NSW(our enlightened Government has made it illegal to have any sort of communication device switched on and/or usable in a Motor Vehicle).

Left would be better for wind, but I just put the windows up lol, I'm not on the phone that often anyway.

No they haven't, hands free is legal for fully licensed drivers. Now more than ever is when they should be installed. Check the new laws.

It's been reported on Current Affair(in the past week)as being illegal and bookable, under the new regulations, to even have a mobile phone within reaching distance whilst driving in NSW(whether switched-on or not), courtesy of the O'Farrel hit-squad.
I have had Bluetooth connection through my in-car system for at least 4 years and have been advised I am not allowed to use it whilst the vehicle is in motion.

I would not be putting much faith into a current affair (bogan affairs), most of the stuff that comes out of their mouth....usually comes out from the other end.

Right, so its illegal to have a phone in our pocket lol. A current affair, nice.

    Ta for the link Eric.

Thanks for that. As can be seen, it is an offense to touch the phone(unless passing it to the passenger), which exactly what was reported on Current Affair.
Prior to the 1st.November, it was also being suggested that using 2-way radio was also illegal(which caused some consternation amongst Taxi/Police/Emergency vehicle operators).
Technology has outpaced the Lawmakers by a long way. :zlove:

Better not talk to passengers then, because by definition you are a personal communication device. How ridiculous.

I hope no-one overhears this in NSW State Parliament(stand by for a news flash).
We have the benefit of such skillful drivers in Sydney, that driving at 110kph+ on the M4 Motorway it is not unusual to observe drivers filling-in entries on a Journal(balanced on the Steering Wheel)or texting on a phone that is being held in the LH whilst also gripping the wheel(so that the RH is free to message away).
Many of these are done by people with baby baskets fitted and in use.
