Hi all, Got my rear tyres changed last week and when the guy tried to take the nuts out, they wouldn't come out easily. Found out that the nuts were forced in at the wrong angle and now one wheel has three studs with striped threads. I suspect my last mechanic, who I got to check my brakes a while back is the culprit, as I know he uses an apprentice to do the basic jobs, so I won't be going back there again. So, at the moment I've got 2 nuts that are forced on, 2 good ones and 1 stud with no nut at all. I live in Derrimut, so I was wondering if there is anyone around my area that can help me fix the studs. I'm open to offers, cash or otherwise. I don't have the know how or tools to do the job, and I'd rather someone who is a Z enthusiast fix my car than a dodgy mechanic. I'd probably have to purchase some lug studs first, so where can I buy them from? My Z is a '89 TT J spec. Are they all the same? I've got 18" Koya Inox rims. Thanks any help is much appreciated
I did a tech writeup on this -not too hard if you have some tools. You should be able to get studs from auto one or similar, or of course your local Nissan dealer.
TT are different to NA and you can get them from Nissan. All you need to do is hammer the old ones out and tap the new ones in. Easy as and can just do the ruined studs if you want and leave the good ones in.
I think the easiest option would be to change the entire hub over with all studs. There are a bunch around for sale and your looking at under $100 delivered for a known good unit. Then its just a matter of taking some bolts and nuts off/on (bit of a job, but i have done it at home no problem in the past). New studs from nissan sound better reading the above post. If you cant find the bits locally i have them here but its postage from NSW so would take a few days. edit* another forum member already answered so updated. :S you guys are too fast!
The cost of the 36mm socket to undo it all and a new hub would be more than the cost of the few studs  can be done, but its not fun...
