Hi all just a general question, I wanted to add a little bit more sound into the cars exhaust system and went and saw an exhaust specialist today. He suggested possibly removing the rear mufflers behind these (picture) if I liked the sound generated. Is this an ok/good or a really bad idea to achieve this? He would just be running pipe through to the end of the cars body is all. The car runs slightly louder then a prius at this current moment which at times can be very dull. (It's a TT also).
Go for it, you wouldn't be the first person to run with just rear mufflers. Maybe look at getting the shop to weld in an X pipe in it's place though.
If they're just an additional muffler, excluding the catalytic convertors which are a must have and the rear mufflers. Then by all means have them removed and replace with straight pipe. It will make the note come alive. However it may induce droning. Apart from a X pipe of sorts, you could also install straight through hot dogs which will muffle the drone some what but keep note.
This is my exhaust atm and I say go for it. Definetely go for it, slight drone at 100k but nothing worth mentioning. Tone is meatier, not loud unless you hit 3.5-4k but meatier and tougher no doubt.
I am actually doing the opposite my trying to make mine stock quite.. Its my everyday car and being auto I think it sounds really lazy. And to tell you the truth I dont like the sounds of 4cyl and 6cyl engines (althought our VG engines do sound better than a commo v6). I had very bad drone and that being due to class pack mufflers on the rear, hotdogs in the middle and obviously cats up front. So i had a muffler place put quiter baffle mufflers on the rear but still with no avail.... we think the last owner gutted the cats :/ lmao so now its even worse!!! So the more muffle you create at the rear of your car the more drone, the further towards the engine you muffle the less drone and the crisper the note. Mid engines sound very crisp and high pitch due to there very short exhaust system. Hope this helps
