I still think 400RWHP is crazy stuff

when i hear of 500+hp its like, yea...whatever....

But what I find most impressive is when people get 400HP out of say a CA18DET. A 1.8L sawing machine!! Now that's impressive.

having driven a 400hp 180sx (CA18det) it was a crazy feeling, BIG turbo BIGGER lag and a kick in the arse when boost hit like I have not experienced elsewhere. my wife would not let me buy the car.........

one of the guys I work with had (he just sold the engine) a 377 rwhp 351 xf ute NA and no nos, it was detuned from just over 400 due to valve float, carb was too small and stock bottom end. his next engine is hoped to hit 600rwhp NAand. no NOS He has a DART block Forged internals NASCAR heads a custom made carby and bored and stroked to around 434. note this is a street driven (although very hungry) vehicle on superlows but no real suspension or brake mods. this car is all about the numbers and loss of traction which dare I say is not hard due to his tyres being 255's

A quick look under the hood of a Z32 and you soon see there is not a lot of room for your huge turbo to fit? Compared to your Skylines,Supras,RX7's .
All is not lost however ,You can get 11's out of full weight Z's with the stock VG , and some of the guy's on here have enough trap speed to run in the 10's now . There is a realtively stock? Z in the US running nines with NO2 and large Turbo's .

The Guy with the Silver Z found a way to fit a big Turbo ?

with those 2 Z's I felt the VG one was not really going hard as it could I dont really know obviously but it did not sound like it was going as hard as most other Z's with 12 psi, and no wheel spin during gear change even. I really expected it to go more like the 2j TBH

Whilst Randy's 10.19 (PB 9.5) in the states is impressive, it should be noted that he is running 30 PSI using Q16 race fuel.

Something that the OP did not ask but needs to be clarified I think is, are we talking "street" or "track" car.

Whilst there can be a lot of debating of what "street" is, IE does that mean "street legal" ?, if that were the case, only cars straight from the showroom would be eligible, obviously that does not reflect what a fast street car is.

In my eyes a fast "street" car is something that will handle ALL types of day to day driving, run pump gas and street legal tyres. With a sub clause of sensibility, no blowers hanging out the bonnet etc, that is just pure cop bait and will result in a tow with the very first police car you see.

Club registered cars that are to be driven directly to and from mechanics or designated events are hardly street cars IMO.

What is cool about Randy's car is it is very close to my definition, Hoosier Street ET Drag Radials are street legal in the USA but not in Australia, it also runs pump gas with a remote switch over to Q16 race gas. So he can drive it on pump gas in all sorts of conditions, drive across the country and fill up where ever he likes.

The race fuel must be bought by the drum and stored in your garage, Randy's car has a 5 US Gallon tank for the Q16, nearly 19 litres.

The question is how quick can he switch over ? Can he stop at a set of lights and flip to Q16 almost instantaneously ? OR does it require a planned setup ?

I think people arent running quick times because they dont build cars specifically for drag. everyone get's all panicky about lag and that would be a pig but if you drive a t88/gt42 supra its a pig on the street but a weapon on the quarter same with a z running twin 3076 turbo's.

    gt28rs turbos are small turbo's.
people also run like 24psi and think thats HIGH boost. you will notice supra/evo/rx7/turbo buick will run huge boost to get the power/times

If people started to run td06 twin turbo kits at 30-35psi you could have an easy 9 if you got the car to hook up.

these are just some quick notes ill jot down from reading on turbobuick/yellowbullet(technical drag racing).

I suppose it depends on building a car for what you want and not following the beaten path of cheque book racing. Pmack didnt follow the ams mani's/wiesco/gt675rs/740cc/eagle rods blah blah and he runs quicker then most on here with stock gear.

this is just my observation and i dont mean to offend anyone....plus i cant talk but hopefully if i dont get rained out again i can

I was talking with a chap about vw stuff a few weeks ago and some how we got on to jap stuff and I mentioned I had a 300zx.
He then tells me he has a friend who had a mega dollar 300zx built at UAS a year or two back pumping out 640kw (858hp)

I'm still not sure what to make of that. I'm sure if such an engine/car was built then myself or someone here would have heard about it at some point.

I mean I can see a non computer forum type person having a car built at some random workshop and keeping to himself but it being from UAS I have to assume someone would have heard/seen something as apparently the car was there for quite some time.

Perhaps the car exists but the end result was exaggerated, or kw mixed up with hp seems more likely.

sure it might exist, but go anywhere where there are car enthusiasts around and pretty much everyone "knows a guy whose mates got a XXXXX which runs 9's with 1000hp"....its all part of the scene lol....

I'm thinking it's your car Rob, and the story teller substituted hp for kw to make it more awesomer.

Tell me about it... I'd love to get to a teach day but I seem to spend all my free time on my Masters over the past 18 months or so.

It's more of a Friday night car lately and year she goes ok...
