A simple question for those who have dropped the box on a Z32, can the throw out bearing be installed backwards, around the wrong way, ie face which makes contact with pressure plate fingers installed facing the transmission. Or is this just not possible due to the way the associated parts around the throw out bearing have been machined. Many thanks for any answers, as a clutch shop concluded after an hours labour, without inspection of the throw out bearing, that it is around the wrong way.
I think the only way would be to press the throw out bearing on backwards onto the carriers. You could probably look through the dust boot for the fork and have a look, def possible with a boreoscope.
They came to that conclusion because they had no idea what they were doing I could have a guess. No pedal adjustment or bleed was done however thats what the report read. I have had issues with a soft pedal and gears hard to get, ie neutral to first/reverse and a pronounced metallic tap sound each time the clutch pedal is pressed. So I will get in through the dust boot and get a true z pro to take a look.
If the bearing is on backwards, it would sound like some has taken an angle grinder to the pressure plate. Really loud, crunchy, grindy, bad noises ALL the time. If this is the diagnosis, go elsewhere as they have no idea and should probably get the employment section out of the local newspaper.
???????? Would be a very hard mistake to make due to the design of the bearing and if it was on backwards it would have ground the pressure plate fingers off very quickly. Do they know that there are several places to bleed the clutch line? Get under and have a look at it if you can.
Sounds more like something wrong with the hydraulic system... Bled properly, etc? Also where is the pressure point?
I also suspect something is a miss with the fluids/air in the line. I used a 1 man bleeder kit on a new ss clutch line that was installed at the time however I still think I will get someone to help me out in a weeks time when I am back from work to do it the right way. I would still like to try adjust the pedal before taking the gearbox out like the clutch specialist said $$$$ I wish we had Z guru's in the Hills area, you boys are lucky who live SOR.
