I just got rid off all of the metal bits that were in the way, and drilled the existing connector right through the middle. Then I inserted the H1 bulb, positioned it by eye, and araldited it in there. Certainly not elegant, but it works. Clearly irreversible though.

If I recall, Chili didn't use the existing bulb holder at all but packed the HID in there somehow. He may see this and give you more info.

Yep! I just bought a couple of rubber grommets the right diameter to be a firm "push-in" fit for the Hi beam globe tunnel.
Placed the H1 HID globe into position, threaded the leads through the grommet, and pushed the grommets in behind the globes(until they were a firm fit). They haven't shifted in 3 years, so I figure it's a success.:p:zlove:

The H1 HID globe will fit in the headlight assembly without any modifications, or the need to remove the light fitting. You will need to modify the 3-pin lamp holder. Firstly, remove the bulb from the holder, then disassemble the holder-
    1. Pull back the 5 metal tabs on the surround for the retaining spring and remove both from the black plastic lamp holder.
    2. Using a Hacksaw blade, cut the cylindrical assembly that the 3-pins are attached to, at the outer base of the lamp holder. You will only be able to cut in 1-2mm all the way around. Will also have to cut back a few small tabs from the outer edge of the lamp holder to get a flush cut.
    3. Once satisfied that you have cut all the way around the base, it should easily snap off.
    4. Using a round file, file out the inside of the remaining lamp holder assembly, which should now be a flat section of black plastic. Trial fit the HID lamp through the base until you get an easy fit.
    5. Re-assemble the retaining spring and surround, bending the 5 tabs back over with a pair of pliers.
    6. Insert the HID lamp into the headlight fitting first, making sure that the slim tubular section of the globe faces upwards in the slot. The 2 locating tabs on the bulb will line up perfectly with those in the headlight assembly.
    7. Refit the modified lamp holder assembly to the headlight, squeezing the retaining spring to insert, and ensuring it locks within the headlight.

The installation of the ballasts etc is all straightforward.

Sorry, cannot provide any photos, working away atm. Eric/A2Zed has done the exact same mod, so he might have some images of it

Out of curiousity, why would you not want to simply use a H3?

H3 for low beam and H1 for highbeam.

All done guys thanks!, spikie saved the day!
H3 globes are for the high beams, h1 are for low.

    Ba Boooowwww......
    That's a negative Ghostrider.
H3c= Low Beam, but you use H3 style HID lamps. The base is rounded with a section cut out for lamp placement.
H1= Hi Beam. The lamp base has 2 rounded pin type rises in it for correct fitment to the headlight assembly. Lamp itself is 10mm longer than the H3

so i was a little sleep deprived, and that may have come across as a tad short  sorry for that. Am wondering as to how you got the H3's into the Hi beam position, with regards to securing the lamp, and how the H1's go in the low beam spot, being a much longer filament, bringing a heat source closer to the glass.

I have no idea why you're asking me about globe fitment. I have already given an answer to that, earlier in this thread.:confused:
If you want to get reassurance about globe fitting, ask WAUZ300ZX(he seems to have it nailed).:p:eek::rofl::rofl::rofl:

BTW, my reference to Red and Green Traffic Lights should have been a pretty obvious dig at the above poster(seeing as he successfully failed to interpret all the previous advice on which globe goes into what light).;);)
