my t-type spare tyre is meant to be deflated when in storage. I didn't find any air compressor supplied, so may be I need one .

    question:

    1. what is the recommended cold psi for t- type tyre? instruction label on the rim is in Japanese.
    2. what is the best/reliable portable air compressor that I can carry not taking much space?

model: 300zx JDM, n.a 2 seater, slick top (pear)

  2. Anti

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

My spare tyre came with a slip of paper half in Japanese saying 60 PSI and I've seen another that's the same.

They come with a factory air compressor so the previous owner must have taken it...

Regarding the tyre pressure, I guess TTZ is still good for something :p

Dont mean to hijack your post but on the same subject, I have a flat spare which has a normal valve and also another threaded hole in the rim...what goes in the hole?????

    A poppit valve....

The coupes have a little poppit valve in the wheel so you can't overfill them with your electric compressor.

Compressor is normally in the boot, in the wheel well along with the spare wheel. Any Auto store, Supercheap, Autobarn etc should stock compressors that will do the job. They plug into the cig lighter socket.

I have gone from spare tyre to a repair can kit which sits in the glovebox. It is rare for a puncture not to be able to be pumped back up with the can.
The spare tyre well is now the sub woofer box, I made a plug to fit out of 20mm MDF and filled the well with fluff, works perfectly.
Oh and the weight saving of losing the spare and jack etc to consider.
And no having to change a tyre in the pitch dark
    so there lol

Isn't it a legal requirement for any vehicle that was originally fitted with a spare tyre to carry one with it at all times? (in Qld atleast I thought). It's often an easy way for police to look inside your boot without having a warrant by requesting to 'check your spare tyre'

    Wrong wrong wrong babbong!!

you don't need a spare, if you get defected for not having one argue it and you will win. if you have a spare that is ****ed and you get defected, argue it and you will win. it is not illegal. i know i will be told i'm wrong but i'm not. the rules are clear. spare tyres are not included in an inspection. the only time you can be defected for a spare tyre being ****ed is after you fit it to your vehicle, and then it's not a spare tyre anymore.
also all mini's dont came with spares?
so all new mini's a in a defective state????? i dont think so.
how can it be a defect and yet you can pass a RWC with no spare????????

To the people who say its defectable and illegal. Wrong.

Its not Illegal or defectable to not have a spare tyre in your car. Its illegal and defectable if the spare tyre is bald and flat though.

Research research research b4 you make statements like you have, looking for a yellow sticker indeed ! what balls.

I will eat my words and wash your car if I am wrong.

    How safe are these tyres???

Given that most people would still have the original, does anyone know how safe these T-type spares would be after 20 years? Granted they're only meant to be driven upto 80km/h but surely that figure is based on a new tyre.

Many here may recall there was a current affair piece that was done on tyres being sold that are past their use by date, which was beyond 4-6 years old, and the risks they present.

Perhaps the T-type are designed with very different requirements, such as the ability to retain their properties after prolonged storage and regular exposure to heat.

    FYI

The only reason the police can check your boot is under the guise of a drug or weapon search or if they have reason to believe you are carrying stolen goods or illegal substances.

If the police are out to make life hard for you, your choice to roll over or stand your ground with dignity. They are not the SS but if you are smartarse about it you wouldn't know the difference, i know how they can be.
Now i am old enugh to be their father I don't take any of their crap and somehow they sense it and treat me respectfully.
You can ask what item of legislation they are referring to and to show or tell you where you can find the information to confirm their statement, but if you are feeling at their mercy just go along with it.
Always prepared to accept being wrong..... but 1/2 hour of research tells me so.
Here is some info for you that may come in useful one day...

Woah dude no need to be a dick about it, i only asked if it was a legal requirement or not as I wasn't 100% sure as it was just something that I'd heard, and I have had the whole 'do you have a spare tyre in your boot' just so they could check my boot to see if I had guns/drugs/ a body in the back of my Zed. And just for the record, they are not allowed to search through your car unless they have a warrant, or have reason to believe you have drugs etc. in your car which is why they do the whole 'got a spare tyre' trick to get into your boot. Also if you had read my post I clearly stated that I was under the impression that all cars that came FROM FACTORY with a spare tyre fitted were supposed to carry one at all times, because yes Minis' and a lot of BMW's now that have run flats fitted from factory do not come with a spare tyre. Either way I'd rather carry the run flat with me just in case to save arguments, but good luck to you. Unfortunately age does play a large part in it and being a younger guy myself I would very possibly get done for something that an older person would probably be let off for, it's a shame really but that's just how the system works.

    Lol.

I can search the internet for random quotes too, and then put together an answer that suits me.

The above "quote" from red dwarf actually comes from "billanmeg": http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=595020&view=findpost&p=1286020932

Some random quotes to support my point of view (from the same forum page as Mr Dwarf):
must have spare tyre, its defect if u dont have one in the car.
    this 100%
it IS a defect for not having a spare wheel in your car, been in mates Charger twice now, where has been issued a defect notice for it, alogn with other stuff

In reality i expect it is a state by state law. And regardless, the cops will put a yellow sticker on a car if they want to, and then it's your problem to go and get inspected, regardless of whether there is any work to do or not.

Personally I wouldn't be giving them any reason to give me a sticker.
