just thinking today how cool it would be, problem is nissan is not offering these engines as a crate option so wrecks will be the only option but has anyone heard of this being done, is it possible, just sounds so good
Well, getting an engine is all well and good but the driveline requirements and other mods to support that power is gonna increase that $$$ figure much higher. Good on ya if you're keen to do something here - but I'd say it'd cost a lot more than $25 000 to do
seriously though, what's the point? People put crazy engines in zeds because it's either A) unique, but doesn't cost too much (ie. a long term DIY project) or B) cheap and powerful I'd much MUCH rather buy a 370z and TT it, than get that engine on its own and end up spending almost the same amount on a 20 year old car
gtho phase 3 are 40 years old but are still classics, its about being unique and when looking for a high power figure + uniqueness i think its ideal just getting hold of one then taking time off work
I think its a good idea, if you were to build a vg30dett to match the power of that vr motor it would cost you more than 25k it couldn't be to hard to fit one as ive seen ls1, 2jz, rb26 in 300, being a 3.8 is a plus to can spool bigger turbos alot faster if you were looking for big power down the track and still keeping in the nissan family :zlove::zlove::zlove:
Wow... do you have any braincells dude? vr38dett in a 300zx... what you think its just a drop in motor?! it would require $100k... asif you didnt consider what it would actually involve and cost lol
I say **** the vr38dett, theres nothing wrong with the vg30dett and you can get just as much power from it.
it wouldnt cost any where near that much , mostly depends how good you are with a welder i guess though
Well you've gotta buy the motor... gearbox and all that crap, figure out how to fit it, engineer it etc. If you attempt to do it properly it would cost a lot, maybe not 100k, but it'd be close. Obviously if its not gonna be on the road you can cut corners etc. Dumb idea anyway imo.
Here's a motor on eBay in the US, for about $11500AU delivered http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Niss...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Mate up a gearbox (not a $22,000 new R35 box) say $5000, after market ECU and tuning $3000, engine swap engineering $5000, might be able to be done for $25,000 ... ish. Pretty round gestimate figures, but what gearbox would you use ?
Lol at ppl thinking it's hard to put a engine in another car. Like said above me I think it would be easily done for 30k with change,it's not a bad idea and I give it 5 years before it's done more then once
ok so where did say anything about having a budget, if you want a sweet ride **** having a tight budget you just end up with ebay shit, i think its a great idea keeping in the v6 nissan family with a modern engine thats putting out realiable power figures and also give it a couple of years and they will be getting imported to australia in shipping containers like everything else that gets old [TIS]
What does the R35 make... 600HP ish? I think the Z32 5sp can still handle that? Maybe get a dog gearset... Nistuned VR38DETT?
I don't think that eBay engine comes with the R35 ECU, with all the sensors and GPS shit that it uses it would be an absolute nightmare to get running in an engine swap, what are you thinking run a Z32 ECU with Nistune, probably could. That would save $1500. Probably take the opportunity to update the box, what about 6 speed from 350Z or 370Z (too many gears ?) if you could get the throttle blip (SynchroRev) to work it would be awesome, but probably have to use 370Z ECU and I am guessing it has fly by wire throttle.
