Nothing chicken about it. Driving back from Cowra in the rain showed us just how dangerous hitting standing water with 265 Toyo R888s was. The car would quite happily step sideways, and that was on straight roads.

    There's no pulp @ LaversHill.
I asked the shop owner about it and they ran pulp in the ulp tank/bowser over easter and have since changed it back. Nearest pulp is 50k's from Lavers.

ApolloBay has 1 servo, a Mobil outlet...... it carries pulp and it was $1:69-9 yesterday. No 'discount price' was available.... not even for a 40 car group !!
    :lame:

After re checking a few things, I've had to make some changes, .....
We must have a full or damn near full tank when we leave Torquay, that way the new route will see all of us back to Geelong comfortably.

The 'Closed road' is still just that...... closed !
It looks as if the 'April' finished date is now mid May at the earliest according to the boss man..... Access is not available.

    Now comes the bad news......

After the huge wind storm last Wednesday much of the GOR is covered in leaves and bark debris with the odd branch still at the roads edges. Much of the debris has been 'swept' aside by traffic and a very distinct 'racing line' has been laid down........ but .....
Some of the inland roads havent had the volume of traffic over them, leaving a very slippery surface to deal with.

My 11 yearold 'navigator' had a ball as we "tokyo drifted" several corners.... due totally to the greasy leaf debris on the surface. Whilst it may have been impressive to him, it wasnt a lot of 'fun' for me, I only have my left hand for driving after my right hand lost a game of catch to an angle grinder last Wednesday.... 13 stiches to the palm !!

Because of the amount of greasy surfaces on the 'inland' track, I've changed the route dramatically, I'm not prepared to endanger others or their vehicles especially when I dont know the driving skills or vehicle conditions of the cars attending this event...... its simply not worth the risk.

I've mapped out a new run which is just as good and a bit more scenic ( and with minimal road debris ), it also allows for additional stops, photo opps, afternoon tea & and re-fueling if needed provided we keep to BigCol's inital schedule for the run.
We'll be doing an extra 60k's, even with the added distance we should all get back to Geelong on the one tank of fuel and make the Westgate before 6.00pm.

    6 sleeps to go

From Torquay down to Lorne was pretty clean, the actual GOR from Lorne onwards is good and will get better during the next week. I expect some minor amounts of litter to remain but it is off of the "racing line" so wont affect you unless you run rediciously wide on a corner....... knew I should have taken a pic

It was one hell of a wind storm !!
Because of the volume of traffic on the main road the debris has been fairly well "swept" off or left in small clumps on the centre line of the road and on the outer edges of the road..... you can clearly see a well used 'line' that drivers are taking.

The other roads I had selected havent had the same volume of traffic over them, as a result the debris is still all over the roads surface and it is damp debris which is now slowly rotting..... and is very greasy under foot let alone driving over.
I pushed ahead on one short section.... took me 20 mins last test run I did..... took just under 1.5 hours on Sunday, much of it was at speeds below 15kph !!..... needless to say we WONT be using that section.
    nope:nono:

    hint.......
afternoon tea .... large car parking area .... nice spot for a walk along the beach
    ;)

The problem is catering for the differant skill levels of all the drivers attending, sure there are a few that are highly skilled drivers but we will no-doubt have a couple of low skilled drivers too, add this to the varying condition of the cars..... mine has an extra hard suspension setup, my tyres are somewhat wider than most & there's a few extra horsies to deal with, another zed may well be on factory rims and recaps with the 20yearold suspension still fitted & a newish 'P'plate in the back window.

For safety reasons only I have re-routed the course to avoid the leaf debris

The new route will be no less challenging but will be a far safer run for all attending.
