good pic up rob , nice car , ( you should have come over that day ) would have been nice for a catch up ,
Thanks mate! In all honesty I didn't take any time out from working on Dean's car - have to catchup next Zedfest
Thanks Tim - it was a bit of a quick trip! No formal work, Dean had checked the car out for me and was storing it at his place for pickup. Another member was travelling down for work so we made a social occasion of it. Tha thappened to revolve around a day's work on the car haha. Likewise I'd love to see you at the next ZedFest
Ticking off some more jobs. Somewhere along the line somebody had painted the plenum grilles black and left all of the trim clips off in the process... They weren't in horrible shape but I wanted to refit some OG ones. Found plenty of Barradine dust in AND around the plenum.... Compressed air, soap, rinse, repeat to clean it all out... And boom new grilles and clips looking much better.
Random questions: Does the door close sound/feel less clunky/tinny compared to a series I car? The door latching mechanism was revised alot over the course of Z32 production, always wondered if this actually made any difference. Does it still have that kind of musty Z32 smell? I always suspected this came from the tweed in Series I cars or maybe the cotton jute sound deadening.
Ha wow OK very specific questions but I like it Can't say I've noticed a huge difference. Drivers door scrubs on the side skirt so that probably doesn't help lol The sound deadening is the same material - well as far as I've seen so far. It doesn't smell though it came with a healthy number of air fresheners hanging off the mirror so it's actually quite pleasant to sit in.
I was thinking of removing the skirts - they're not installed particularly well. The rubby bit sits slightly high on the rear corner of the door
Haha fair enough, well interest still stands should you be down again randomly in the future! ZedFest would be very cool, just tricky with a few young kiddos! Sounds like you need to get some OEM skirts Rob (& maybe check you door hinges as mentioned)
Nissan actually removed most of the sound deadening from the interior of the later models as a cost cutting exercise from what I know. An example of this is the later model boot carpet didnt come with any sound deadening stuck to it at all unlike the early model boot carpet which had blobs of sound deadening glued to it.
I do like the look of the OEM skirts but I don't believe they were on this car from factory - planning just to revert the body to OG spec
Under the carpets i believe had no sound deadening at all and they also removed all of the underbody coatings in the wheel wells which i dont know if you could consider that as part of the sound deadening but it is sorta related i guess
Getting a little more done. The oil pan on the trans has a constant film of oil. Not enough to leave any on the ground but hey may as well get into that rear main. Also servicing the trans with a new filter, gasket, and some redline D4. New tail shaft centre bearing and nut, new trans mount, crush washers etc
Crappy photo but after a long day at work I came home to find my 16" BBS wheels had been delivered. These were the first thing I ordered after securing the car and after 12 weeks or so at sea it's nice to have them in the garage. These were part of the option pack mentioned above that the car left the factory with.
