I do love a factory fresh looking series one 2+2 TT auto. I just do. Good work Harts, great looking car. You'll have gathered by now that the under bonnet electrical systems are the biggest worry on the TT Zeds, you seem to be onto that already :)

Yes mate @MickW, I have been working that out. I am lucky that I handle sidecutters as a trade.

She still needs a fair bit of TLC to get a good baseline, but the bones are not too bad. Looking forward to the laundry list of gear I am hoping to see this week, courtesy of Rob, and the subsequent service next week.

Things on the order for replacement in the next 2 weeks are:

Coils and coil loom plugs, spark plugs, S2 PTU upgrade, fuel pump, fuel filter, K&N standard filter box elements, fluids, radiator fan clutch, radiator fan, potentially the cold idle air regulator and a few house keeping items like bonnet stops and door catches. Plus whatever else the mechanic finds.

Hopefully after that I can re-focus on continuing to clean her up a little! I do love the standard look, although I'll be popping some wider wheels on later this year to fill the guards. Apart from that, cosmetically she'll be a stocker. I think the standard lines are awesome, low and wide with plenty of iconic views (frontal, headlights, taillights, side profile).

Mate I was working through your grocery list, compiling suggestions and quality DIY advice until I saw that, then I said Ouch and stopped typing. Catch you tomorrow mate, cheers :)

Keep your fingers crossed for me, although it has had a pre-purchase inspection before I bought it so I'm hoping for no big surprises!

You'll be fine harts, no big surprises unless you strap on a couple of 2860s, and, this is what you'll get:D. But seriously the vg30's are one tuff engine, its the peripherals that give problems, just like any other automobile things ware out.

I don't like being a passenger in a fast car. Especially when I'm the only person in the car:)

Dropped car off at the mechanic this morning for the run through. Having the viscous fan clutch replaced with a new radiator fan (Thanks @rob260 ) as well as coils, coil looms where necessary, fresh iridium plugs, fuel filter, flush out, additive, oil and filter change and new K&N filter elements (also thanks @rob260 ) and then a full inspection to set the mechanical baseline. Lets see what the list is after that!

Keeping my fingers and toes crossed, so wish me luck. Will update once I get the car back this arvo. S2 PTU plug and play kit hopefully on the way soon from the forum, hopefully that will nix any remaining electrical issues.

Little update, I had the fuel smell issue and with all of the various electrical issues I got with the car, plus not having much spare time right now, I hadn't chased it up and handballed it to the mechanic. Mechanic just called and thinks it is injector o-rings, but whilst he was there found damage to the injector loom as well. More loom issues! So after he is finished she goes off to the auto electrician to have the injectors sorted out (rings and ultrasonic), plus they can install my car alarm from Rob.

A weekend without the Z it is!

Thanks to @zed280zx I received my S2 PTU plug and play kit today. Expecting black silicone intercooler hoses tomorrow, so I'll take both items down for fitment. Expect to pick up the car Friday sometime from my mechanic with all works completed.

Just a little excited to see how she runs! Will be able to take it for a blast down south this weekend to blow the cobwebs out.

Got the car back, lots of work done! Loom fixes including new coil and injector plugs and some shorts and general damage were fixed, new aerial (old one was bent and wouldn't retract) and alarm, full service with all filters, coils and plugs, radiator fan and fan clutch.

Car runs perfectly except for start up, where it has trouble on initial idle. I have to chase that up, whether it is IACV, air regulator, oxidized or loose loom plugs or hose issues to the aforementioned or something else. It seems to be running very rich at low idle, steam coming from the exhaust a little and the last of my fuel smell from the steam. Also, The fan clutch I had installed installed was a second hand item (as an oem new one was ex US or 9-12 weeks from Nissan Australia and $680) which felt good, nice smooth solid resistance on the pump mount... well it makes the jet roar noise, so I have a new OEM one on route from Z1, lesson learned. Incidentally the one I removed was a Chinese aftermarket item with an intermittent smooth/rough action. Mechanic found 5mm of play in my steering rack but said the rest of the car was in great condition, so happy days.

Not everything solved yet, but close! Silicon intercooler pipes and S2 PTU to install whilst I wait for the fan clutch.

    Sounds like good progress.

Re your idle a good starting point is plug the scan tool in and see what duty cycle the AAC should be seeing. This will give you a good indication of whether the problem is mechanical or related to sensor values.

Slowly but surely @rob260 , do you sell a plug and scan tool by the way?

Rob I've been using an ECUtalk module for 11 years now. Very useful device, money well spent.

Mate, brand new OEM fan clutches give you a jet roar for about 30 - 60 seconds after start up depending on ambient temperature. It's a quirk of their design. You expect them to not engage and spin the fan when the engine is cold, your brain says they should only engage when the engine is up to temperature and a LOT of hot air is flowing through the radiator and heating up the fan clutch. But the clutch engages the fan vigorously at cold start ups. Go figure...

Eyes watering from steamy unburnt fuel while working on a Zed? Sounds familiar :D
If it's truly running rich on idle, don't make the mistake of doing multiple cold starts and idle tests if you have platinum or irridium plugs. You might foul the plugs. Then you'll assume the plugs are not the problem because hey, they're new and they're best quality. So you'll keep looking everywhere else for the problem. Ask me how I know...
