Have just about confirmed that problem stems from speed sensor ('934 TT auto), but am baffled by what I am seeing. First pic is of replacement from Z1. 2nd pic is from Google search of sensor location, 3rd pic is what I see on my ZED, nothing like either of the first 2. Baffled!! Anyone know what I am seeing on my ZED - vehicle has had a transmission changeout.

    IB ?????

Picture with locations is of a manual gearbox and yours is an auto. I think you may have look at the extension housing on an auto.

Thanks Ian but didn't help. Anyone have pics of sensor installed on TT auto transmission - getting desperate.

Sensor looks ok, speedo and odo working fine, power steering still intermittent, none at all when standing still?????

Not sure if this will be of any help. On the driver's of the rack is a solenoid that controls power steering assist. Follow the diagnostics section in the service manual to test.
If you want to experience crazy behaviour swap the feed line with the return line and watch what the steering wheel does. I wouldn't advise driving it though if you do.

I also have intermittent steering issues.
When reversing out of a carpark at 90 degrees to the road and then driving away i can clearly hear an electric motor operating in the rear for approx 5 seconds. i don't hear it any other time while driving. could it be the only time the motor uses full travel from on extreme to the other?
On very tight turns like a round about the car feels as though it is rotating around the centre of the car rather than the rear wheels. This is not the rear end breaking traction it is just below that point although it does give a similar sensation .
Do the rear wheels steer counter to the front in some situations? even at around 100km
