Here is the large turbo ill be using for the compound build, its a twin scroll GT4202R with a 1.05a/r turbine, this'll be rear mounted in the spare wheel well with a quick spool valve 2018-11-05 19.12.06.jpg

haha very cool. Is that an Ebay turbo? A lot of piping to get from the rear wheel well back into the engine bay.

Yep, generic china spec turbo. Didn't want to take the chance of blowing a genuine turbo due to oiling issues. Once the whole system is sorted and working this turbo will be sent to hypergear for a rebuild and maybe even a comp wheel upgrade.

The current plan is to run a 3" pipe to the intake T piece, which will be remade in either stainless or mild.

Good plan, these ebay turbos are actually all journal bearing and easily rebuilt.

Are you going to have piping running through the cabin? I just can't imagine space under the car for this.

Very interested to see how this progresses.
Will you be running a seperate wastegate for the 42?

Under the car, few guys run rear mounts on zeds and have space, this will be a bit tougher since the stockers will still be up front. I'll have to get creative with the routing though.

Few metres of 3" mild steel and a split pulse t4 flange arrived today. Just need to sort out a few things before i go ahead.

Plan is to go from the cats which are 2.5" to a single 3" pipe to the boot with a QSV then 4" to a single muffler.

so to be clear, you are going to run stock turbos in the stock location and a lagger turbo in the back of the car , so this will be a 3 turbo set up , i mean this sounds really cool id love to see it all done, should get up and boogie

    ( i haven't read all your thread )

Exactly, stock twins up front, large single in rear. Compound turbo setup. Boost pressure numbers from the turbos add together however the pressure ratios multiply due to the small turbos receiving air at a higher pressure than atmospheric.

ok sounds interesting , keep it up , id like to see it finished , your going to need to set up all the turbos for accurate boost pressures but you will sort it out , just need to make sure the fronts dont become blow -throughs. would be interesting to see what happens on the dyno

Still have quite a few more bits to collect but its getting there slowly

For sure man, probably a 40mm or so. Plus ill be using another external gate as a spool valve.

Wastegates are in, just waiting for a few new gaskets, brass t pieces, braided clutch line and other random crap to come in.

Big turbos wastegate just came in, same 40mm that i use on the stock turbos.

Still need to buy/make the following:
    3" cooler piping.
RX7 S1 radiator - will give me 3" clearance for charge piping.
    GT42 oil drain fitting.
GT42 Turbine outlet flange and gasket.
    GT42 oil feed adaptor fitting.
60mm gate to be used as a QSV.
    Random brass fittings.
    Weld rear mount manifold section.

Fun fact, removal of the ac compressor and bracket allows a 2.5" pipe to fit between the engine mount and steering rack without hitting anything no interferance from the dump either. 2018-11-24 23.29.19.jpg

Tested the external wastegates yesterday, 12psi base pressure.. held boost just fine. Much easier than pulling the motor.

Do you have any idea when GT4202R will start making some boost?
I would imagine that you are counting on some at 5-6k RPM for it to kick in?

Are you running triple MAF on to that Link G4+ (from memory you had Selin kit)? On Link website I couldn't find enough info on analogue inputs...
or possibly use Selin to separate stock turbos MAF and GT4202R's MAF on the other end?
or you will be running intake pipe to the front to?
    What's your approach?

Where do you planing to attaching 2.5" pressure line from the back in to your intake manifold?

No MAFs at all, Link G4+ runs a MAP sensor. Large turbos charge piping will run under the car to between the engine mount and engine past where the a/c compressor was to where the factory intake T piece is, although it will be remade in metal. As for full boost im not entirely sure yet, as its a compound setup it will depend on how high of a pressure ratio the small turbos run.

For example on yellowbullet.com there is a 2.5L 1JZ with a compound setup consisting of a factory CT15 and a GT4202 1.22a/r and hes on 25psi by 4000RPM. My setup should be capable of that even rear mounted as i have a quick spool valve, 1.05 housing and more displacement. Only actual testing will show a result but we are still a bit off from that.

Tested the external wastegates at 20psi yesterday, held to redline without an issue.

Tried every boost setting from 11psi upto 20psi, all levels held great and the car is noticeably more powerful now as its holding boost up top. When it made 300rwkw it ran 18psi dropping to 14 up top and that was the maximum boost i could get out of it, now when its set to 18 it holds that to redline.

Twin scroll quick spool is ok, but optimum engine displacement for turbo is 4.4-7L.
So even with quick spool valve you'll have some lag.

If you add electric throttle body on intake of GT4202 to have open/close position, MAP sensor before the additional throttle body. and additional MAP after throttle body.
By having it closed you run your setup as without third turbo, when pressure equalize additional throttle body opens and you running high boost with no lag.

Unless Link G4+ is able to control throttle body, All you need is small PLC which is able to read analogue values on MAP's. Bit of a PLC programing to engage 12v relay which would open electric throttle body when values are same or higher on second MAP.
