I zoned out in traffic today. And managed to rear-end someone. :(

I've got 3rd party. So the poor lady I hit should be covered. But my zed isn't :(

Any advice or recommendations to fix this cheap would be much appreciated.

    • I have a spare wings west front bar, that will need to be fitted and painted.
    • The guard needs to be popped out or replaced?
    • New headlight
    • New Indicator

It happened out the front of a panel beater, so I took it in for them to take a look at. and they quoted me $1500 If I supply all the parts. Is this reasonable?

the car is an '89 2+2 TT
will there be compatibility issues with any other models?

The parts in front of the a-pillar are all the same so the guard & bumper from any zed will be fine. Local member Kr4usy is currently wrecking a zed, so he may still have some of those parts. Depending on how hard the hit was, you may need a new reo bar aswell which sits behind the front bar.

Whereabouts in Melbourne are you? If you near the North, there is a panel beater i can recommend that has done work on my zed.

Yeah i noticed he was parting out stuff, but I think I'm too late for the headlight and guards, maybe just the indicator.

I have a feeling the reobar was removed to put in the FMIC.

That all looks fairly minor. Front bar, headlight and indicator and the shop should be able to line it all up.

Only compatibility thing to keep in mind is aus/us/japanese bars all have different parker/indicator/fog set ups so have to do a little wiring if you change those.

I wonder did they price to blend the door as well? and was that price allowing for any potential straightening of the inner skirts and headlight bucket or did they say that that would be extra (I dont think it will be needed though). I cant really speculate on panel shop pricing in another state and I know its probably bordering on high for our shop for a simple guard and bumper respray and fitup. That said we just did an VE R8 maloo ute with similar damage (repair front bumper and paint, replace and paint guard) and that was $3000 of course we are talking about an $800 guard that we supplied and a fair amount of plastic welding and repair work on the bumper (they cost us over $2000 new) so again the price may be a tad high but not outrageous

If you want to do it on a budget you can hunt for a zed the same colour is being parted out if it's the original paint job and just slap the panels on yourself. I did that when I damaged one of the front fenders on my first NA. It really depends on how important the quality of the repair is to you and how fast you need it done. for me it turned an $800 repair cost into a $200 one... Colour match was pretty good too.

Looks like you need to part it out (sell it to jamie)

If you want to save a few dollar$, remove the damaged parts yourself.
Get the replacement parts painted, then you can reassemble.

I picked up a headlight from the wreckers this morning for $100 with the rubber surround (which was always loose). What is involved in fitting this? is it something I can do with basic tools and a jack? Speed isn't a huge issue, but I would prefer to get it into a driveable state soon. So I'm thinking bare minmum, replace the headlight, and clear tape on the indicator. All lights are working, The indicator broke in half.

Getting it driveable means I can transport large items like bumpers and guards, which I can't do on my motorbike.

Not 100% sure what has to be done here. But When I removed the driving lights (which are in a box somewhere) to fit in the FMIC, we switched the indicators to half driving light half indicator. If I install the Wings West front bumper I might have room to re-install the driving lights. Do I disconect the wire from the indicator driving light? Are there 2 globes in the standalone driving light? As there is a light button on the right hand pod (which I no longer use).

Hey dude long time no see. Sorry to hear about your accident if your interested i do have a spare reo bar and side indicator you can buy from me cheap if you want to travel down to the western suburbs one weekend.

To remove all of those parts is easily done at home with basics tools mate just look through the tech section and take each part off slowly and youll see they arent that complicated to take off.

Itherwise good luck with the repair.

Not sure on the specifics off the top of my head, if you do some googling or searching back in these forums and the tech section you might find info on the lights. Should be able to see what needs to be done once it's all in front of you anyway if you aren't afraid of a little wiring.

Also, when you get the headlight consider doing the metal gear mod for the adjusters as you'll probably need to use them as the headlight's mounting bit is probably bent. Info can be found in the tech section linked from the banner menu near the top of the page.

After reading the headlight removal guides in the tech section I took off the nose panel the other day and had a look/feel around.

It looks like removing the headlight will be more challenging as I'm pretty sure I've bent some of the metal near the bolts, which made getting a socket in there impossible.

While looking around I found this thing unplugged ??

And this plastic piping cracked open.

It's located on the passenger side, I think it's one the pipes that connect to the stock airbox which are not used now due to the pod filter?

I'll see if my brother wants to give me a hand to pull off the front bar and have a go at it. Otherwise I'm thinking I'll have to pay someone to do it all properly. Looks like there are some panels that have to be aligned. I've got the quote down to $1000 + Parts through an aquaintance.

The unplugged thing is the air con drier. It's very much a minor item. Plug it back in and she'll be right.

The other part is hard to see, assuming driver's side? On that side you have the radiator overflow bottle and the carbon canister. Both are cheap simple items to replace.

na the second one is on the passenger side.

my error, wasn't thinking clearly. I meant passenger side. That side does indeed have the charcoal canister and rad overflow bottle.

We had a go at it today. And everything is warped. Here's a photo. [IMG]

Thinking of handing it over to a professional. We tried to bend out the mounting point for the headlight But it wasn't budging. I'm thinking of cutting it off with an angle grinder.

What do you guys reckon? Should I persist with it or get an expert?

If you remove the damaged items and purchase the replacement parts yourself, not only should it be easy to get a definite repair quote (rather than an "estimate" with a grin), it should be pretty cheap.
