Hey guys, I've gotten pretty unlucky with both Zeds I own and after doing a bit of work on them it's become very apparent that I pretty much need new wheels/tyres for both. The one I am focusing on for now is the 1990 2+0 N/A as the other is in pieces and will be for a while. I have read a heap of tyre fitment guides, including the one over at Nico(?) and also done a search here. I'm a bit lost however and would appreciate some help if possible. My N/A has had the TT rotors and calipers (sumitomo's) swapped onto it (assuming by the previous owner) from what I can see as they look the exact same as my TT brakes and have the sumitomo logo. I'd like a set of wheels and tyres that fit without any guard work or any modifications to the vehicle, happy with 17" but I'm open to 18" if they'll fit reasonably without any modifications or work required. The car is pretty much only going to be used for street use. My biggest requirement is that anything I put on needs to be legal and able to pass a green slip in the NT. From what I can see I should be able to get something like 17x8.5+35 114.3x5 and have no issues, but I really wanted to confirm before doing this in case I have it all wrong as I don't need a third set of wheels laying around. I'm planning on having the same all around rather than staggering, a few of the benefits for me are easily rotating all 4 and cost savings as from what I've read the larger you go the more expensive tyres become? I also figured for street use this shouldn't be an issue. My big problem with both current sets of wheels is they don't clear the brake calipers on the fronts without spacers and I don't want to be running any spacers as they're illegal in the NT from what I've read and this car is due to go over the pits in about 3-4 months and I don't want to have to swap a set of stockies out every time it needs an inspection because I'm lazy. I hope you can see I've done some research here and I don't get a huge flame war started because I've not been able to trust in my understanding of the research I've done even though there is a wealth of info available.
Those size and offsets should be OK without spacers. What you need to find is a set of wheels with high caliper clearance so they can be fitted without spacers. Plenty of brands and wheel designs out there that do the job; I have run 4 different styles of 18s and 2 different styles of 17s over the years and never needed spacers on the fronts. Just remember that clearing the caliper without spacers has nothing to do with offset; it is all a function of the spoke design. Stock R33 GT-R wheels are an example of a 17" wheel that does all you want - I believe they are 17x9 +30 all round.

Highly recommend them. Top quality, light weight, and reasonable price. They are one of the sets I have - seen here when I lent them to Krausy. They will be painted gold when they eventually go on to redzed. Got them for a good price because of the colour they were painted I reckon!
Sweet!!! I just absolutely love the look of them! That colour while driving makes them spectacular if you ask me. What sizes are your set and did you have any clearance issues at all?
No clearance issues - all 4 wheels are same size and offset. Will let you know size/offset later tonight or tomorrow, not at home right now.
Yeah, sizes you're looking at are an easy fit and any decent 'performance' branded wheels should clear the brakes. As for legal, you'll have to check you local regs and how the local mechanics and constabulary feel about them. Also not that the NA brakes do look identical to TTs, just a slight thickness difference, barely relevant to wheel fitment but make sure you get the right discs.
Re: NA & TT Front Brakes. The early 1989 & possibly some 1990 NA models as well, were fitted with 28mm thick rotor discs. The TT's then appeared on the scene fitted with thicker 30mm front rotor discs. The calipers themselves appear identical. All NA's & TT's built thereafter share the same rotor dics & calipers (except for the iron calipers). The easiest way to tell if you have the early series brakes fitted to your NA would be to measure the rotor disc thicknesses. I don't know if the calipers originally fitted to 28mm thick rotor disc equipped NA's will clear/fit the 30mm thick TT rotor discs, perhaps someone that has been through the exercise can comment.

Thanks for the info about the brakes the only reason I assumed there may be differences is a page I read showed that the "Sumitomo" branded calipers are only on TT models out the factory and the calipers on the front of my NA are a pair of these.
