I am curious if others have made the next step from a direct cable interface with the consult port to using a Bluetooth device - namely a dedicated Consult BT device. And then using that device with their Android phone.

This is the Consult BT device I'm looking at.

These are the Consult programs I was looking to run on my Android phone.

I use the track electronics BT version

I use a dedicated laptop but here is the android support list they quote

    ◦ConsultBT Scan (Android)
    ◦NikoZ (Android)
◦Torque Pro (Android - Beta support only, still in development)

    Hope that helps
    Cheers

I use the Track Electronics BT

    with

    ◦NikoZ (Android)

while I wait for Dave (Vader) to release his Android software.

but there is a Windows program that might run on a Windows phone.
    Sorry, can't find the link

    Thanks for that Jamie
I too read the various applications and was hoping it would be a viable alternative to my current Ipaq PPC/PDA running on ECUTalk.
I'll be using my Galaxy Note 3 which has more then twice the display face as the Ipaq. I was hoping there were other Android users.

    Thank you.
I tried to contact NikoZ a few years ago to ask about his app but got no response. I have not heard of one person that has actually had any communication with him at this point. All I see is his App in the Google Play Store for a nominal fee and that's it - no other documentation to inform the buyer the aspects and parameters of his app.
Are you using that NikoZ app on your phone?
Have you made any videos of it?
I've been reading a few cases where people have had connectivity issues with their Track Electronics BT device. Nick at ConceptZ has had a few returned and it appears they may hold back selling any more and may be returning their inventory of those Track Electronics BT's to the manufacturer until all the bugs are sorted out.

I figured aus300zx would be the best source for info on this subject since it seems it's the home of Nistune, ECUTalk, PLMS, etc etc.

I was hoping member Newkleer might be up on this sort of thing.

Do you have a rough timeline on an expected date of release of Vader's (Dave's) Android software?

Do you know which Android version you're currently on? I'm on 5.0 although I hear most have updated to 6.0.1

ive never tried one of the bluetooth options in recent times (had a lot of trouble getting one going back about 4 years ago) but would hope they worked ok.

for any android tablets with a separate (to the usb) charging input, you can get nissan datascan (probably others) + usb host adaptor + ecutalk (or other FTDI usb cable) running on it which ive heard from a couple of people using.

ive no idea what the cable in that picture is (of the cord next to the consult bluetooth thing). hopefully doesnt need to be wired/connected anywhere?

BTConsult version that I bought. Obviously the cable version which has been modified to include a Bluetooth modem inside. The first one I bought was returned because the Bluetooth modem failed. I am pretty sure I have some email from Belinda? that she was aware of the faulty modems and changed to a different one to fix that problem.

I made "Option 1" on the Nissan Data Scan I for Android / Supported Adaptors page.

$35 odd bucks and works fairly well, can be a bit finicky if you have Bluetooth switched off on the phone then turn it on to connect., also likes being very close when first connecting.

But no auto connect or no settable alarms for water temp etc on NDS for Android is a bit of a let down.

Does the Tracks Electronics adaptor connect reliably ?

I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly. You created the NDSI and the NDSI Lite in this link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nissandatascan.ndsilite&hl=en
And that the full pay version is $35?

If so, have you tested it with a Bluetooth Android phone?
If so, and if that worked, do you remember what Android OS version was in place at the time?

    Brisz, yes it does.

    JS
    Version 4.1.2 and 5.01 work.
Nexus plus, Galaxy S2 or S4 work.

This was referring to the BlueTooth hardware that plugs into the consult port.

Go to the Nissan Data Scan page: http://www.nissandatascan.com/

Then click "Nissan Data Scan I for Android".

    Then click "Supported Adapters".

His website doesn't give direct addresses in the address bar.

You will then see the 3 pre made supported BT adapters and 2 cobble together options.

At the time the Track Electronics adapter was on back order, so I made DIY option 1.

The two bits were about $35 on ebay.

    My consultBT was $75 AUS

I just bought the NDSI paid version for $9.99 I forgot to check if that was AUS dollars. So after the exchange rate I will probably see a bill for $15:eek:

The ndsi lite kept switching to adware and then crashing, so I stopped using it. Now that I have paid, lets see what happens.

There is a camera recording feature, so you will need a windscreen suction mount.

Hey you are right BT does auto connect and Nissan DataScan for Android has customisable gauges.

Just needs an alarm for water temp and oil pressure maybe.

Those black OBD Black interface connectors don't work 100% with the Z according to my experience. I have a thread on this, just search for 'ANDROID by geron' using the search function on here.
Long story short, they interfere with the vehicles speed sensor once connected to the OBD port and the speed is shown constantly as '0' via the digital gauges. Independent of software used.
All other functions work but not the speed. So if you want it connected full time, expect HICAS, Cruise CTRL and Heavy steering once over 60km/hr, but if the car is under 60, all good... search it.

I would have loved a Bluetooth solution too. Saves running wires :)

Is there an oil pressure display option, because the Z oil pressure guage is from the same family as the Temp and Fuel guage

I would ask the question on the NDSI forum but I didn't answer this question correctly.
    GT-R was an invalid answer.
